Can I claim this money back?

Forget it, no help at all except sarcastic remarks. We were sold the account, told we had to accept the charges to get the account.

It beggars belief that somebody can sit there for twenty years and merrily look at bank statements showing a fee going out for services they don't need.
However, head over to the reclaiming section higher up on the forum drop down menu and you might find you do end up with a welcome windfall.0 -
So you had the benefit of at least the travel insurance but never claimed?
I have never claimed on my car insurance - do you think I can claim that back?
We have become a nation of shysters.0 -
I very much doubt you can reclaim for non-use.
This of it this way - You have to have car insurance, yet you may never claim on it. But you cannot get a refund of the premiums. That's just how it works, you're paying for other people.
This is exactly the same for your Phone/Travel Insurance with Lloyds. You may have never needed to claim, but your payments have covered other people. That's the risk you take with these types of accounts.
I have Lloyds platinum that costs me £17 a month. Has travel, phone and breakdown cover. For me, it's worth it. I have a £500 phone that I could not afford to replace outright in one day, nor could I afford the hospital bills for my two or three short breaks a year over-seas. Also having a car & motorbike the breakdown cover is handy, though I am yest to use it (touch wood!).
Whenever I've received letters about the paid for accounts it's always been very clear that I should review the account from time to time to ensure it still meets my needs.
I suspect if you attempt to reclaim the monthly charge,m they will simply point you to this. It is your responsibility to ensure the product is suitable for your needs.0 -

Any reclaiming would be predicated on demonstrating mis-selling, not failing to use the benefits - can you show that the account was mis-sold (nearly twenty years ago)?0

We have never used any of the benefits of the accounts and in fact we can no longer get the free travel insurance because of age and medical restraints, some of the other benefits are not applicable either. My mobile phone for instance is covered under our house insurance.
For almost 20 years we have paid this money over, can we claim it back? and if so how do we go about it???
Have you claimed on your house insurance or do you want to claim that back also?0 -
Thanks for the sarcastic remarks. Mods please remove my post.0

Nice irony there!Deleted_User wrote: »Thanks for the sarcastic remarks.
Not sure there was any real need to fling your toys out of the pram after not getting the answers you wanted - after many years and many posts on this forum (albeit perhaps in some less plain-speaking areas) you should realise that it's not always about telling people what they want to hear.Deleted_User wrote: »Forget it, no help at all except sarcastic remarks.
Granted, some responses were a bit on the brusque side but there is something of a backlash against the compensation culture that seems to be developing so you're not alone in receiving comments like this. Having said that, I'd stand by mine and PeacefulWaters also told you where to go (in the positive sense of the phrase) - it's also a waste of time rewriting your OP when it had already been quoted in another post....0 -
Apparently they were already getting a 50% discount on the normal fees as well.

What sarcastic replies are you refering too ?
No harm in complaining though, it doesn't cost anything.0
