Agreed, I don't do it myself but it is harmless.
Seems a contradiction here with people complaining about how people should be enjoying the show and not filming on their phones, but then at the same time instead of watching the show themselves they are fixated on the people filming it!
As long as it doesn't block your view it is completely harmless.
I also don't understand the difference between taking videos/photos on holiday and doing the same at a gig. Why don't the memories of the holidays "live in in the posters hearts as well as the gigs appear to"0 -

IMHO when you go on holiday there is an expectation that people will take holiday snaps, not ruin your 2 hour gig that has cost you £100s, just because they have no respect to other users. Anyway for the bands well done for a least having one song with no smart phone recording.0 -

There is an expectation when you go to any event that people will video and photograph the band. If you find it annoying I would recommend that you don't go to gigs as it will be impossible in any event with thousands of people to make sure that they all behave like you want.
Just focus on the band.
Gigs I have been too the bands have actively encouraged phones to be out with flashes on as it adds to the atmosphere. There is also something fantastically spectacular about being at Glastonbury and seeing a sea of lights from people's mobile phones.0 -

There's a difference between a band asking audience members to get their phones out for a light or to record a section of the show (so they can use user led content in their music videos - I've seen that done) to people just randomly recording whole chunks of the show and getting in the way.
Most bands I go see have a 'photo opportunity moment' where the band pose for a photo. I don't mind a few cameras in the air occasionally, but when you're standing by someone who has their camera/phone in the air for most of it, then you think what's the point and please stop spoiling my view!
And if anyone waves an ipad in the air to take videos or record I will do my best to knock it out your hand if I'm close enough! They don't belong at gigs and they take really crap photos (worse than phones)0 -

Not sure physically assaulting someone and criminally damaging their personal property is the way to go! Still whatever rocks your boat0 -
There's probably one worse than recording gigs with your phone camera - it's when people video portrait ways. Do you watch your TV sideways?! It looks terrible when you play the videos back on a TV or computer and everything is squeezed into a tiny space.0

Well I'm short and knocking an ipad out of someone's hand will be hard, and people like that deserve to have their ipad broken if they take it to a gig! Lol0 -
Anyone taking photos or filming on an iPad or large tablet needs to whacked over the head with a piece of concrete the same size as their tablet. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I went to a gig recently and I was on the disabled platform at the back of the room- I was virtually viewing the gig through other people's phones *The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
