I was worried you would see the stairs (even just a big black block) on the other side of the glass

Full length glass would look modern and a lot better than having half and half

I'll take another look tonight as its only going to be 1 or possibly 2 stairs 'on show'

Thank you for all your help!!!

I would definitely go for a matching frame colour. I would also try to go for a complete side window without bar or coloured bottom panel, though for me personally, I would need the glass to be matching throughout.

I have gone for a grey composite door with a fancy pattern glass, a white frame and a fully glazed sidelight (so no middle bar) with a 'satin' glaze

will post a before and after pic once its all done

You have increased the step height into the door - not really in the ethos of Lifetime Homes, nor Part M of the Buildings Regulations.

You have a blue door - not a good choice regarding warping, fading and distorting.

You have no porch - not good building practice because the door is unprotected from sun and rain.

Is the new door better than what was there before? In terms of step height, and colour, the answer is an obvious no.

Does the new door look better? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a nicer door, but who can say if it matches the architectural style of the home.

Is the U Value better on the new door? Yes, but the sidelight may be worse.

A mixed bag really, but provided you are happy then that is fine by me.

A new step is being built so will probably look to do a two tier semi circle

Cannot afford a porch as funds used for new central heating, conservatory, all new electrics, plastering, carpets etc

Went for a darker door as i think white is old fashioned and wanted a bit of colour without being garish

The sidelight is double glazed and in a better insulated frame so imagine the U rating will be better whilst also letting in more light

But thank you for your opinion

I think the top option is the best choice here

I think it looks very smart, love the deign on the door windows! The full panel on the left was definitely a good call imo.

Have they? Looking at the brick lines it appears to be the same height to me.
    A witty saying proves nothing
  • Huskydays - the step is the same height but the step into the door has increased due to the higher threshold. A low profile threshold would have been better.
