No mid range power in "new" car?
Hi, recently purchased a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 litre petrol automatic. It has 121,000 on the clock and I have just changed the engine oil and gearbox oil. Since this service, the car is response and pulls well from standstill at lower revs but when I really put my foot down it just doesn't seem to pull? There are no lights on the dashboard. Car does not appear to miss fire. What could be the problem?

I'm not surprised as you claim it's a banger.Hi fellow Motoring posters,
I have recently purchased a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 litre petrol automatic for £750. The car has 121k on the clock, and in good condition inside but some dents/scratches on the outside and hence the price.
I have recently got the engine oil changed using 5w30 and also flushed the automatic fluid transmission. Since the car feels a lot more responsive and picks up well. Small things that annoy me:
1. The SAT NAV disc does not work
2. The top dash temperature control/radio/clock display is intermittent. Seems like a loose connection but from trailing through Honda Accord forums this is apparently quite common and unfortunately the loose connection is on the PCB circuit for the actual radio/satnav so isn't an easy fix.
3. Steering wheel alignment is off.
Point number 1 and 2 re above don't concern me much. As for point 3, this is something I need to sort out. I thought I'd book the car for a simple diagnostic check with the main dealer to see what errors come up, which I may as well do as it needs a free Honda recall for its airbag. They charge £70 for a four wheel alignment so will add this on and £160 for their Honda 12 service.
Now, Honda only use 0w20 oil which I found a little odd. I used 5w30 oil but hopefully this should be fine? Can they fix the intermittent radio/clock/temp display when they sort out the airbags? If its a big recall fix they might need to open the dash for whatever reason and in the meanwhile solder that loose connection? Does their Honda 12 include a diagnostic scan? Crown Honda say they don't typically do a diagnostic check unless something is wrong, whereas the next nearest Honda dealer charge £60 for a diagnostic scan!
Finally, is it worth it to flush the power steering fluid?0 -

It's an automatic, i'd expect nothing less. Throttle input just seems random on automatics, i've never found one where I felt like I had an control over the acceleration.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well why don't you find out the 0-60 time for the car and then give it a try, if your within 2 seconds, then it probably just feels slow because of the auto box.
I drove a 4.0L V6 Turbo Ford Falcon over in Australia, it was an auto, it felt really slow, but actually went pretty well.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Sorry I did not mean you, I meant Andy. I had a check of the air filter and that seems quite new/clean. Maybe there is nothing wrong with the car, it feels slow but when I look at the speedo is tells me otherwise. My last car was a diesel so maybe this is the reason why it feels slower, comparatively. Drinks fuel like anything though the 2.4 litre engine! Getting around 45 miles for a tenner of fuel.0

It sounds like you are finding a lack of torque, which gives the impression of a lack of acceleration. I think the Accord has 140lb-ft torque but only at high revs. By comparison a Fiesta petrol 1.0 has 148lb-ft at much lower revs, while a Yaris diesel 1.4 has 151lb-ft.0 -

With all that free insurance you claim to be getting, surely fuel cost won't be a problem?0 -
I've sorted that out now so paying in full. The reason why I got free insurance for 14 days was because I was an existing customer0

But you said you'd had eight weeks of free insurance or something in your other thread, or are you now retracting that as the bs we all recognised it was?0 -
Is the 2.4 a normally aspirated engine i.e. no turbo? If so, it'll lack a bit of torque and power mid range.0
