Talk talk under exs name!

Options
Evening everyone!

My partner currently has a talk talk account which he pays for but is under his exs name. He's trying to get it cancelled but hasn't had any luck since they won't do anything unless she cancels it herself. However, since their relationship ended on bad terms there is no way we can (or want to) contact her.

Any advice on what we can do?

Thanks in advance!

Quite simple, say she has moved, give TT her new address, cancel DD.

It is in her name, she will then be wise to cancel it.

You can assure her that you will pay for the current month but no longer if she fails to cancel

If he cancels the DD, without the account having been closed by the account holder, it will start to roll up non-payment charges, and of course any letters about this will be sent to the account holder at the address on file for the account holder.

I assume that there is some process in place for such letters to be forwarded to the account holder, if you are not able to get TT to accept the information you are trying to give them about her new address.

In due course, if TT do not get any replies, they will pass the debt to a debt collection agency, which will issue letters to said account holder to deal with the debt.

In the process markers will be put on the credit files of the account holder to show that they have a bad debt which may result in them having difficulty obtaining credit, or getting a loan or mortgage.

If this process sounds OK, then cancel the DD. I can't rule out the possibility that the current bill payer might not be the one pursued by TalkTalk etc, it depends what they have on file.

Do you or your partner know any security details they may ask when you try to cancel?
Because you sound just like her on the phone ;)

That is why he needs to act as if he has just moved in, they will be SO keen for her address and he provides it.

Then he tells her it is in her interest to cancel for the reasons you state.about her credit record.

Meanwhile he signs up with a new provider in a different name, his own or new GF (this time making sure she is paying).

The real issue here is this idea that you can't contact the Ex. when you have this contract in her name.

This happened to my auntie when she was getting divorced. As above all she could do was stop paying and as it was in his name he soon sorted it out.

    Hi Bakeycakey,

There are forms on our website that can be used to change the owner of the account but I'm afraid they do need to be completed by both parties. The other option would be to place an order for a new line in your partners name which would mean you don't have any association with the old account.

    Thanks
