Three - instore misselling?
Just over a year ago I sorted my Dad's mobile contract out and got him switched onto the £15 per month sim-only unlimited data deal with Three. I realise Three no longer offer this deal to new customers, so my Dad was lucky to sign up for it before it ended.
Towards the end of the 12 months my Dad started getting texts from Three telling him his contract was ending and he needed to sort it out, so he went into his local Three store. He's now signed up for another 12 month contract, now paying £24 per month. So he's paying £9 per month more and as far as I can tell he's not getting anything more in return. He didn't get a new handset or anything.
Whenever I've had a phone contract end previously, the option has always been there to leave things as they are on a rolling-monthly basis. My Dad says he was told that this isn't allowed and if he didn't sign up for a new contract then his phone would be cut off. Does this sound right? I think he's been lied to but I just want to check.
He was also left with the impression there was no tie-in, so something dodgy has clearly gone on.
Sadly this was over 3 weeks ago so I assume any cooling off period has ended, but as the new contract was blatantly not in his interest (compared with the deal he was on) I'm hoping we might still be able to complain.

It all sounds very odd, my Three 12 month SIM contract came to the end of the 12 month period and just continues at the same monthly rate.
No nagging text messages, no need to do anything unless there is a better deal to be had.0 -
However maybe they could have offered him a cheaper product by looking at his real usage.0 -
It was the One Plan that ended I believe, which offered unlimited tethering. So his phone would have stopped. You haven't missed any cooling off period - there's none in a shop. Did he go through the various SIM tariffs, or just take what was offered?0

Unless you can prove what your Dad was told, it would be a struggle to change it.0
