Car tax increase after reminder letter

Always seems to happen to me.

I recently has a reminder letter for car tax. I renew it and it is not the same price as on the reminder letter.

Actually £6 difference for 6 months. Why are the government allowed to do this?

I imagine the lower amount on the reminder letter is if you choose to pay by DD. Nothing has changed.

It can cost more to pay by direct debit There’s a 5% surcharge if you pay:

• monthly
• every 6 months

Renewal was for 31.3.17. I paid today. Meant to be £126.50. I went online today and paid £132

Only if you pay by instalments.

What band (or CO2 rate) is your car? Did you read the document linked above?

Aghh ... (Band I) - £132. I was just confused why the renewal was less than I actually paid. Thanks
