Hi AC, just a thought about kitchen doors in Ikea... I was looking the other day and the salesman told me that the ikea kitchen sizes are not standard, so their doors will only fit their cabinets...so check your sizes!
There are loads of places that sell doors though that do fit standard size cabinets.. b&q, wickes etc.
PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.

  • Hi willowpop :)

I will contact them soon .
It looks like I may paint the kitchen next .:)

    Thanks for that.

A greedy salesperson at Wickes (tried to sell us the whole kitchen) insisted that no one sold doors separately. He said It was an "industry standard".

    :rotfl:
  • could've done with a lie in . Around 8am this morning, loud noises sounding very industrial was going on for about 10 mins or so.
It was the hedge being cut outside my window and surrounding area.
That's one good thing for the leaseholders here, the jobs get done so you can at least see where the money goes .

Just looked over at my efforts in the gas room. The roller will have to come out again on one wall. Same with the hallway , but not too bad .

Waiting for the bathroom people to respond to my emails.

I like my new flats location . 7 0r 8 mins I'm in ashley cross on one side or penn hill on the other .
  • Had a guy to give me an estimate for the bathroom .
He said (as he would ) that it was the strangest bathroom he'd seen .
It is an awkward shape etc .
To redo it : new bath / shower / toilet / sink
Re tile , change flooring and paint . He supplies everything and disposes of everything . He can make more room by removing a wall by the toilet.
It would take approx 2 weeks .
If I pay cash .,, £5-6,000 . He suggested cash btw.
He would have somebody there every day, and not doing other jobs in between .
He will send quote on sat, with dates he can start.
    They're on check a trade .
He had a good nosey around the flat .

The other co . never saw my email. No response.

    Interesting .

Hi AC. Sounds like you're really cracking on with everything. Well done on the decorating. That's some going - it nearly killed me doing two coats on the smallest utility room you've ever seen! Although you've been getting tired, it shows me that your fitness is really improving to be able to decorate a few days in a week. Good going!

I'm sure people will tell you bathrooms are available much cheaper than your quote but it is in line with what we are paying for ours - £5.5k. At first I thought £3k should be more than enough but after a few quotes (and kitchen costs spiralling by not getting one company to do it all!) the £5.5k feels like a good deal. Just make sure whoever you get covers eberything and there are no unexpected additions at the end. We got very vague quotes for the kitchen then electrics, plastering, flooring all took us a bit by surprise when we presumed it was all in the original quote!

Did you have a budget in mind in line with the capital you have left?

  • Hi copperjar! :)
Thanks for your kind insight once again. :)

I'm slowly having a go, and testing the water so to speak.
Not feeling as rough as last year, so there may be hope .
I suppose I have to be realistic and say, if I don't do it, who will ?
Plus I'm not doing a great deal to be fair :)
I knew yesterday , that I wouldn't be strong enough for today ,so I took a day off .
I know it's sometimes the small things that are annoying .
At the moment , if I feel tired sitting on this bouncy castle type 2 seater settee I can't sleep or I'll fall sideways leaning on the arm.:)

I have to be realistic and should have the flat painted within the next 2 weeks . This will give me time to have the odd day when I'm not up to it etc.

I've finally submitted my job to rated people this evening , so I should expect some calls within the next few days.
I've asked for job to start within 2 weeks , and lower than £8k

I was hoping to get £5k max, but as the bathroom is problematic and I want the easy way out ( they supply everything and dispose of everything etc) then I think £6k may not be too bad .
The head height is poor , and it's pretty pokey

I told them I want job done by mid may .This allows for any unforeseen holdups . I'm not due out of my present flat until 31 may.

    Thanks again copperjar :)

Have you tried Bathstore AC? They have a branch in Castlepoint. I have had a couple of quotes for myself and friends and they have come out cheaper than that. I would say you have a budget of say £3500 - £4000 and what can they do. They do a computer aided design of the new bathroom so you can see what it will look like. They include taking the old one out and taking everything away. If you don't like what they show you then you can up your price a bit.

Lurker here I second bath store too they have fitters they recommend ours was brilliant. Be vary of rated people I've used them before and they were fine but last time got three quotes two from rated people and they were within £100 of each other (paint a three bed house) but the personal recommendation not on ratepeople came in a third less of the price. Good luck I'm sure it will be a lovely home soon Poole is a great place to live.
