AC- just a thought, but would you run a blog to make a bit of money? I don't fully know how it works, and I don't mean instead of looking for work at some point, but try and get a few adverts on it and make a few pounds a week.

    Hello karonher :)
Great question, albeit a tad unusual . If I knew how, I don't see why not . I wouldn't know where to start, apart from obviously rambling:)
Thanks for the thought . Interesting ..
  • Feel a bit rough today . However, I managed to cut all the large amounts of cardboard down that was blocking the hallway and bag it up . I even cut up the box from my new unused microwave .
No choice really . Still it's a Panasonic , very similar to my previous 2

So , looking at the rather large hifi cabinet in the living room gave me various thoughts about what I could possibly do to make the place more liveable on space and music in general.
Back in the '80s I slowly started buying all my albums again on cd
( even more so in the '90s when the prices were a lot cheaper and the remastered ones contained miniature versions of the original sleeves.). To try and cut a long story short, I'm thinking of getting rid of my vinyl and replacing with cd/ MP3 etc
I have put a lot of my cds into my Mac and that of course converts into an iTunes library. The only annoying and niggling thing doing that, is that some of my vinyl ( not much ) hasn't been re released on cd or MP3 . I may go through and see how much I can do without..

Another thought crossed my mind on the same subject .
I've temporarily wired up my tv to my seperates stereo system .
A budget system that sounds good . The wires are everywhere while I'm still a little unsettled . If I did sell my turntable , I would make a few hundred on it . Replacing it with a USB one sounds very mse :)
The turntable cannot be used in the living room ,as the tv needs to be mounted onto a wall. I got the rack cheap off ebsy, and as James has the tools and I have not, he can do it for me.

Final quandary on all of this : 2 years ago, I managed to buy a soundstage ( the t v goes ontop of it ). What I could do , is put all of the other stuff into the soon to be music room, and just have that out in the living room . It means I would have less clutter and all the Bluetooth stuff is at hand . There would be no need to put the tv on the wall and everything is tidy.
What I will do later , is see how much room there is in the music room. I have a feeling , I may just be able to fit everything in there.
If so, I may just keep the vinyl if the cabinet fits in there.
I have a new computer desk in there still in all of its wrapping.

While I'm talking technology , I may as well mention. My tariffs etc
I have a sky dish outside my flat. This means I will have to buy a freesat box. Cheaper tha a sky package. What I will do, is buy a now t v box ( cheap one). This means I can take advantage of special offers at certain times , without signing up to anything. The now t v app on the Apple t v seems ltd. I could be wrong .

    Must stop overthinking :)

Afternoon AC, don't know whether this helps in any way, but recently I saw in my local big Tesco Extra, a turntable set up for digitising in some way from vinyl to whatever via your computer.

That set me thinking, so a bit of googling brought up this help article, now you may already have gone down this road before, if so I apologise for wasting both our times. Lol.

    https://www.whathifi.com/advice/how-to-digitise-your-vinyl-collection

Strikes me, as you need to both maximise use of the space in your flat and make some money, digitising your vinyl and selling the records afterwards would achieve both ends?

    HTH.
  • Thanks for that harz :) Good article . Good in principle , but too much faffing around imho . Years ago on my first Mac, there was an application called wire tap pro £10 .worth it . Got swallowed up I think .Looking st 3 crates of vinyl infront of me. If I were to summarise how many I have, I would say it's more like 2 and a half crates .
As I say , I may just manage to hang onto them and stick them in the music room. At the moment I'm fighting against 3 black bin liners full of cardboaerd and losing . They'll be gone in the morning . There is a place off Poole high street that bus/ sells vinyl etc . Red rock records.

It's funny really, but the living room and bedroom are decent sizes . James was impressed .
  • Forgot to mention the obvious : you tube is great .
When I was in the previous flat, I could just about access my iTunes library on my old Mac mini . Since I've been here, I've just been using you tube via Apple TV . Good in the short term till I'm ready to tidy up :)
  • Well I managed to put the hi fi cabinet back into the music room at s squeeze . It isn't fully in the room as yet, as the room is still a bomb site . I can see wood from the trees in there , as the 10,000 box files are ontop of the new sideboard . I have my friend coming over to put some frames up,over the weekend . It'll be interesting to hear his comments and feedback :)

So I'm sitting in the living room listening to stuff via you tube .
I was gonna wire up the soundbar and give that a go and see what gives. The stereo easily fits in the place it is now and looks good.
It'll look even better when the clutter is sorted out over the weekend
The two things I find about decent soundbars are that they do have
Bluetooth which is essential . Also , the sound isn't supposed to be as good as stereo seperates system which is why I'm not 100% sure about ditching the stereo and getting a decent soundbar .
If you're willing to pay around a grand, then you could probably ditch the stereo. The tv unit I have is oval shaped ,and maybe if I got a proper hifi unit and stuck the tv on the wall, the system would look more appealing .
I am still considering selling the vinyl tho

Hope your call goes well today AC :)
  • Thanks Anna :)
Today is a day of getting things done . What have I done so far ?
I've put lots of cardboard into the newly emptied recycling bin.
I received another council tax bill. On weds I spoke to a nice chap who took my payment . This bill was for April . Sent in 2 parts as it's for when the flat was empty. So I have asked for poole council to send me a breakdown of what I've paid and how much I owe per month. It is thought I owe £98 which is what it was agreed on weds. I don't need another bill.

I then phoned domestic and general to cancel my policies for fridge freezer and washing machine . Funny thing was, in both phone calls I spoke to the same customer dervices rep.

In approx a half an hours time , I have to make that call!
I am prepared and ready as I'll ever be . You will hear about it later.

Other stuff: I'm keeping the vinyl . Room will be made . I realised why the hifi cabinet isn't working out for me .. it was my brothers. That explains why it is awkward and has to go :)
Regarding my hi fi seperates , I only need an amp to get me into the 21 st century . Was thinking about a receiver as some of those have internet radio and are not too expensive in the Scheme of things. I can always sell the amp I have .
I now have half a hallway back .
    Anyway, back later..
  • Ok . Just having a breather here as I'm literally in the middle of dealing with payplan . It is hard work. The case officer I have is very robotic . I had to go through a means test , denspite trying to explain my situation . Apparently payplan don't do full and final settlements unless I have the full amount . I offered £13,000 instead of the £23,000. She is speaking to her supervisor as after being means tested the deficit is £743.00 per month on the budget .
I am due a call back shortly . So it'll eithet I just pay full amount or write to creditors . Unless the supervisor has other ideas
