I've quit everything. Now what ?

Dining room, alcoves Mid grey, remaining walls pale silver beige/grey. Lounge area same beige/grey, with heather coloured alcoves. Sofas grey, heathery/plum coloured rugs, curtains, blinds. I have a Turkish rug at my DS1s which I will bring over. I have painted the table and dining chairs a pale grey. The remaining furniture, bookcases etc, are rustic pine. I did think about painting those grey but I think I prefer the natural wood. I think painting it grey would make it all too monochrome.
Artworks are mainly impressionist prints and posters Van Gogh, Chagall, Miro, Picasso, so plenty of colour to stop it all being bland. A few pop art and advertising prints.
At the moment accent colours are lime green and orange but I usually add vibrant reds and purples for the winter. Sounds garish but it isn’t. I only use “pops” of colour and of course, plants and flowers.
The bedrooms are mainly shades of duck egg blue, always plain white bedlnen, one room is heavy dark colononial furniture, the guest room is sort of Victorian/Parisienne chic. The blues work well with both styles.
It’s a typical Victorian Terrace, which we have restored to its former glory, high celings, and lots of original features such as fireplaces, cornicing. Gradually adding lots of nice light fittings, chandeliers, lamps, mirrors etc to bounce light round.
Nearly done.....then I’ll get bored and be ready to sell up and start all over again. :rotfl:0 -
Your d!cor plan sounds lovely LL. I love grey and it is very much in fashion again now. Duck egg blue is also one of my favourites with accent colours for soft furnishings.
I also think learning to drive would be a good skill AC but I know it is not for everyone. I would be lost without my car though and brilliant in wet weather. My car was in for service/mot today so had to catch the bus to work which took soooo much longer.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Wow LL ! You sound like Picasso
. Very interesting colour scheme.
Speaking of art , I like Rothko . I have been browsing the right colours to go with the rest of my decor .
No gym today , but will be there tomorrow . I’ve done Monday and Tuesday , so tomorrow should suffice . I have incorporated the step machine which kills me . Only a few minutes but it’s a start . Myasthenia has taken a lot out of me , but I won’t give in .
I’ve made a start of actually making the gas room usable .
I wired up the ‘home office ‘ equipment . Had a dabble on the bass last night for about half an hour . First time since moving in .
The majority of stuff is done . No more James . Just have to tidy , declutter and put more pictures up . So far so good .0 -
Good you have made your spare room usable ( I cannot get over you calling it gas room - it sounds like a torture chamber :rotfl:). Multi purpose rooms are the way to go to make the best use of space in a flat. Have you got lots of storage now sorted and is there a desk there for you to put your laptop/PC? I always prefer to sit at a desk as sitting on the sofa with my laptop gives me back and neck ache.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. I would also use the next few months while you are sorting out your health and fitness to do some research into jobs in the area and maybe update your CV. Get on top of your finances, research your pensions and maybe investigate giving music lessons if you have some musical talent. My brother paid a small fortune in weekly guitar lessons and there must be people in Poole who may be interested. Maybe local schools have lists of music teachers you could get your name on to?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Gas/torture room - the mind boggles. :rotfl:
I spent years trying to explain to people when they complained that there were “too many bedrooms” (what’s that about:rotfl:) that a bedroom doesn’t have to be a bedroom.......and I agree that when square footage is limited then space needs to be multifunctional and used intelligently.
Yes AC - you have probably guessed I studied art and design. I majored in something called “Visual Cultures”. It encompasses art, design, photography, film, architecture, fashion, sculpture. A fusion of all the visual arts.
When in Bilbao I visited the Guggenheim art museum. What a building.
Alas No picassos in there........in fact very little important Spanish art. Some Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol. A lot of American art but then given that it is an offshoot of the Guggenheim in New York then I guess that’s hardly surprising. Pity though. I would have liked to have seen more local art featured. Maybe that will come later.
Most of my favourite Spanish artworks will be found in Barcelona or Madrid, although the most unusual art museum I have ever visited is the Salivador Dali museum at Figuerres. It is the maddest craziest place I have ever seen but then I guess its to be expected from a surrealist.
One of my fellow travellers was a 90 hear old retired architect. He was a fascinating man, an outrageous flirt and quite a charmer with a real twinkle in his eye. Very intelligent, obviously he had been at the top of his game when he was younger because he had designed some very prestigious buildings in Singapore, Capetown, and America. We had a couple of very interesting conversations about art and architecture. He must have been quite a guy in his heyday, super smart and a real looker.
I agree with enthusiastic .......if I had your musical ability and skills I would definitely be looking at a way to capitalise. I would rather be teaching and making music than being stuck behind a desk in some boring soul destroying mundane job.0 -
Hi Ll/Enthusiastic
Yesterday I was actually browsing looking at part time jobs in the area ,so I’m slowly getting in the right direction .
Yes, updated cv & covering letter is the way to go .
When I do get my new Mac , I will also be getting some music software. I won’t bore you silly , other than to say that most is somewhat overcomplicated and confusing . I have a rough idea what to get .
Funny you mention the artistic streak LL.
my closest friends are graphic designers , art directors , web designers and finance . There are so many creative people around .
I have a niece who is a very good graphic designer , and she may be 21/2. Then my friend here, who’s daughter has adhd . She is very good and just needs a break to get her foot in the door somewhere.
I was learning clarinet at school before I got fed up and attended sporadically . I come from a large family , so after a couple of weeks I was told to give that thing back, or words to that extent .
I can understand the noise situation . However with bass, it’s all about vibration and not high pitched squealing0 -
So this morning , I saw a large cockroach ( or at least that’s what it looked like ) in the extractor fan in the bathroom . It seemed to be hesitating whether to come in or not as I have one of those plug ins that deter insects and rodents . It was long dark brown and chunky with two antlers . Probably a cockroach .
So I got some brown tape and covered the vents .
I cleaned up the flat as usual and saw nothing else .
Not sure what to do next . Off to the gym now.0 -
Eww! I've never seen a cockroach in real life. I used to think we didn't have them in the UK, as it's only been relatively recently (in the last couple of decades) that I've heard of people here having to deal with them.
Think you've done the right thing, temporarily, taping the vent up, but I guess you should contact pest control at the council and see what they suggest.0 -
...and just as I was leaving the flat this morning I saw my ex neighbour . We had a chant , and she is not my ex neighbour after all.
The estate agents put a sign up outside my window by mistake , so it means she hasn’t left at all .
What a strange day0
