Landlady asking me to pay this month's rent again

Can you confirm that this exact payment method is what you have used successfully in previous months? If so then it seems very unlikely that the money would be routed to a suspense account unless the receiving bank had a system issue at the time the transfer was done. A possibility is that there was a glitch in the Faster Payments system at that time, I'm not entirely sure what would happen to the money in that circumstance.
Anyway, as many other posts have said already, you need to be speaking to your bank to ask them to trace the payment. It's pretty much certain that they, or the receiving bank at their request, will be able to locate it.0 -
When did you do the payment?
Did you ask for the payment to be made as soon as possible or on a specific date?0 -
I work for RBS/natwest and have dealt with many cases like this.
It will now show you a FP reference on your halifax statement (if not, ring and ask for it) including the time it was sent. Give this to your LL and they will be able to get Natwest to do a FP check. Most likely the money has either been returned or has been paid via bacs which takes a lot longer.
You can both ask your banks for traces, but mainly it will be halifax as they are the sending bank.0 -

Seriously - without being funny - how can you think you'd have to pay twice and £400 is just 'lost'?0

Out of interest, what level of accommodation are you getting for 400 p.m?0

maybe (I've no idea) the LL is thinking: "I've not received my rent. The tenant is making excuses." (maybe not the 1st time rent is late - who knows?). LL is simply saying: "You need to pay the rent."0 -
My bank are currently looking into it for me, but the guy on the phone said it could take up to five weeks. Is this normal?0
-
Is it normal that it will take 5 weeks? No.
Is it normal that you are told it could take up to five weeks? Yes.
They might resolve it in 24 hours, but if they have problems, or the other bank fails to respond at first, or the 2 banks struggle to trace the money, it might take 5 weeks. Unlikely though.0
