How can I get (contract) free internet for a month before moving home?

I wouldn't mind paying for a month but I need something contractless that I can just use for only a month.

I signed up with hyperoptic, as it turns out, at a very bad time.

I had no idea my rent was going to be raised by the amount it would when I signed up for the new internet so I got a 12 month contract.

Only a couple of weeks after getting it I get the email of nearly a £200 increase on rent.

So I am moving out. The internet had a 30 day satisfaction garauntee and I have only a few days to cancel it in order to not be charged a leaving fee.

I was with sky before so I could ask them if I can go back without having to sign a new contract but I don't know if they would do that without connection fees and/or a new contract. I think my phone line has been disconnected now since hyperoptic uses its own lines so I doubt that would work.

Are there any other ways? I just need basic internet for 1 month mainly for house hunting.

I don't really have a serviceable laptop that I can take to free hotspots. It is huge and cumbersome and doesn't hold charge.

My mum told me that I could get access to bt hotspots with her internet so she is looking into that. Is that the best bet?

Any other options available to me?

Just need it for one month or so as I said till I secure a new place to live.

Get a 30 day sim with a decent amount of data.

    I don't have a smartphone.

I just remembered that hyperoptic have a contractless option so I have asked them if they can move me to that for a month which would be great.

Still would like to hear other options though in case that doesn't prove possible.

    Yep hotspots, library and

No Smartphone, no problem. get yourself a mifi router off ebay, can be got for around £22 then get a data only sim with no commitment.

Look around for strongest wifi signal, then if there is a neighbour ask if you can borrow their wifi for a few weeks. Get an AC router, either position it as a repeater of their signal at the closest point in your property or if signal is not strong enough put the AC router in their premises at the closest point to yours.

Whatever you do get out of that contract and thanks for warning us how expensive it is.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

I'm not sure the wholesale pricing model allows 30 day minimum term contracts any more.

It used to be the case that if you paid the installation fee up front and the disconnection fee as standalone items, then some providers would do a rolling 30 day minimum term (the big names wouldn't - they roll the whole lot up and amortise it over a longer minimum term because the man in the street can't cope with separate charges for everything), but I can't find any that offer that now.

In any case, paying those fees meant you would pay over £100 for a month of broadband anyway and it would still be cheaper to buy a cheap used smartphone and a SIM.

Virgin do a no contract option.

As do the likes of Pulse8 on the Openreach network.

Not sure what you mean I was talking about my rent being £200 more not the broadband :D

The price would actually been cheaper than sky once the had raised their prices again (~30 per month for 100mbit hyperoptic including all fees vs 32 for sky and bt line rental and only 20 mbit- more like 12) had I seen out the 12 month contract. But I gotta leave now so that is moot to me :).

What do you guys mean it costs me £100 per month for internet? sure it turned out expensive (£82 for first bill) because I am going to leave after a month but that was unforseen.

The rolling one they do you still need to give 30 days so I guess I will do one month and immediately call the notice as I get it since I won't be here for much longer than a month. I think its £27 for 20 mbits.
