How to get rid of moths

We had moths since we moved into the house - We binned all of the carpets and started again. They haven't come back since!0

We went nuclear on them and hoovered the room to an inch of its life, then put some very strong powder (we bought some online and then realised the key ingredient was also in a Homebases own brand ant powder so bought some of those."Einstein never said most of the things attributed to him" - Mark Twain0

My husband brought some with him when he moved into our house - fortunately we have mostly hard floors so there is not too much to sustain them. However, they have been hanging in in decreasing numbers for the last 2 or 3 years. We have pheromone traps in every room, I have a spray for the carpets and soft furnishings, and we used some smoke bombs to kill off as many as possible in the beginning.0

I had a 'moth invasion' last year. I tried with the friendly Lavender Oil approach. It didn't stop them.
So I bought a very strong electric zapper bat, bleach, diatomaceous earth and (I'm ashamed) a large hat and cape.
I thought I looked like D'Artagnan. I didn't...I looked mental. I don't care...not one moth came near me! Hope this helps!0 -
A cat ?
Sorryif they were in only one room, maybe place ammonia and spray lots of flea powder and keep the door closed for 24 hours .
What about those plugs that deter rodents and insects ?
Best of luck0 -
Wow, so many responses, thank you all. I'm a little worried as they seem to have disappeared so not sure what's going on. Have a major clean of our room as going to paint it over Easter, so will also but some stuff down as well.0

They have dormant periods. You think you've won, and then a few months down the line they come back. It's really depressing!!1 -
You can buy packs consisting of sticky pheromone traps, mothball style things for your wardrobes and spray - we needed all of it to stop our moth problems last year.
It all works differently: traps catch the moths, mothballs stop them eating your clothes too much, and the spray makes your carpets toxic when moths try to eat it - but the eggs are impervious to the spray so regular, thorough hoovering is essential.
We hoovered like mad in a room (moved all furniture), then sprayed the carpet liberally, then left to dry. Repeated same in all rooms and finally got rid of them.0 -
The pheremone traps are useful if you think they've gone. They trap a few males, so you will then know if the moths are back.
They don't get rid of them, think of them just as a visible indicator that the problem has returned. Then it's back to vacuuming under furniture regularly again!1
