Seller messing me around?

Hi we have a property to sell and have a first time buyer locked in and we found a house to buy that vendors said are going into rental. Locked in with prices and solicitors etc hip hop hooray...now 2 weeks later my seller is looking at buying a house. I'm fuming as the offer deal was based on them being chain free.

I'm guessing I'm looking to vent and ask what would you do? It's our dream house but seriously I can't help think when will the chain end now and what cheek for being dishonest in first place, I only found out when my estate agent told me they had booked a viewing with them.

Really pi**ed off and confused. Later found out they bought their house in 2010 and marketed their house in 2012 and 2015, perhaps they are time wasters. They are also using a very cheap non local estate agents and cheap non local solicitors.

Shall I go with my instinct and carry on looking for another house?

    Yes follow your instincts.

but don't cut your bridges. Use different EAs to look at other properties and meanwhile let the conveyancing on this property continue. Or put it on hold to avoid racking up legal fees etc, but without withdrawing, at least until you know what the sellers are doing.
  • Your instincts are your best guide at most times. But I can imagine your dilemma.I think it would be a good idea to ask them upfront about their intentions and about when they are looking to finish this sale. And the fact that you originally chose their house because of their portrayal of being chain free. Wait for their reply and see what you get.

And also start looking for other houses. But keep assuring your FTB in which ever way possible.

Being a FTB, we are in a similar situation where our vendor is just too opaque and we have to continuously chase the agents to know about their movements. So it would be relieving for them if you keep them in a loop at most times!
Home buying yet again!! Fingers crossed!!

At the time they could of genuinely believed themselves that they were going to move into rented accommodation. They may well of had a change of heart. You never know, they might offer to still move into rented to help ease the chain etc. If it's your dream house I would just have the conversation with them, they may of wanted to have been honest with you and want to know you were OK with it. Your EA may have been the one in the middle trying to keep it shtum to appease you and so on.

It's your dream house, so don't give up on it so easily. Some people need a stick, and others a carrot. I'd give them the stick.....so..... set a deadline.

For example tell them that you need to exchange by xxxxxx

I wouldn't bother asking what their intentions are as suggested above. They have lied once so will probably lie again.

I would hold off moving forward and not incurring more fees and see how it goes and still look for other properties. If this is your dream house it may take a while to find another property.
