Painting over marble fireplace - is it possible?

I didn't prime it.

Although it covered very well in terms of colour, you could faintly see the texture of the marble in the paint. Probably another coat would have got rid of that, but I quite liked the effect.

VERY IMPORTANT:
I made sure i masked the carpet, walls and other areas with tape and newspaper! Spray paint indoors will go a long way!
