Painting over marble fireplace - is it possible?

Hello,
I am planning on painting the below wooden fireplace surround in a eggshell white (water based).
Is it possible to paint over the green marble? I was wondering if I could use a product like owatrol esp to give the marble a key, and then paint over it in a light grey dulux wipeable matt emulsion, or possibly the same white eggshell as the wooden surround.
Would the owatrol esp and matt emulsion possibly work? I dont mind if it doesnt last forever as I would probaly try and change it within a year or 2.
If this doesnt sound like a good idea can anyone give me any other tips! Thanks

Probably not a good idea if the fire is used - Temperatures around a fireplace can get surprisingly high, and the paper may well char. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
If you're going to change it in a year or two, I'd just live with it as it is.0

I did exactly this with a tacky grey marble surround.
I used spray stove paint - it is (obviously) heat resistant.
for example:

We have just used a heat resistant stove paint spray on a cream marble. It has transformed the fire so can recommend.

Bullseye 1-2-3 is a great product used in on heavy vanished ceiling so I could paint it with water based paint0

It's possible - but what a shame!0

Thanks to the replies telling me about the heat resistant spray, this sounds perfect. Did you have to prime the surface with anything before spraying and how many coats did you need ?
