Which? Magazine Speed Checker

Options
Which? sent an email to me today promoting their broadband speed checker. This reports impossible speeds: 84.3 download and 28.2 upload for my Talk Talk fibre broadband.

Would someone else try it please to see how it reports:

Inaccurate! I'm on Plusnet's 40/2 FTTC package. Which? shows 40.1 down and 5.7 up.:rotfl:The latency is way off the mark too.
Ookla speedtest and BT consistently show I'm on 37.5 down and 1.9 up which is about right - not far from cabinet.:)

    I got:

    Response time (latency)
    106 ms

    Download speed
    70.6 Mbps

    Upload speed
    23.3 Mbps

Not really sure how it calculates those figures as my VDSL2 (FTTC) syncs at 70,482 Kbps download and 20,000 Kbps upload. I'm guessing those must be stats from the sending sides which don't reflect the actual throughput.

    Anyway, beta.speedtest.net reports:

    PING
    20 ms

    DOWNLOAD
    64.69 Mbps

    UPLOAD
    17.71 Mbps

These figures are far more believable.

    I get

Ping : 195ms (must be going via the Moon!)

    Download : 31 Mb

    Upload : 2.4 Mb

Speedtest.net and BT Wholesale tester both give

    Ping : 20 - 35ms

    Download : 17Mb

    Upload : 3.2Mb

Which is what I normally get.

So something is certainly not quite right with it.

Thank you all, so Which? which tests and is so critical of other people's products is promoting its speed tester which is misleading and not fit for purpose.

    My results:

Which? Ping 84 ms, down 84.3 Mbps, up 28.2 Mbps
Speedtest Ping 10ms, down 68.2 Mbps, up 18.7 Mbps

Which? is outside the range of possibility.

    Miles out!

speedtest.net (I use these to check my Sky speeds every few days, and save them as a Snipping Tool pic): -

Latency: 26 ms Download: 13.21 Mbps Upload: 0.59 Mbps.

    Which speedtester: -
Latency: 211ms Download: 14.5 Mbps Upload: 112.7 Mbps

I know it's All Fool's Day, but didn't that become ineffective after 12 noon?
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Interesting to see that they are overreading rather than underreading in your case (different from the other results here I believe.)

I also have a different app for speed tests and its results are broadly in line with Speedtest.

Miles out for me on my ADSL2+ connection.
Ping ~ 10 X what other sites show.
Download - @ 17.7Mbps is greater than the profile for the line (~16.8Mbps)
    Upload - @ 4.2 Mbps - over 10X what I actually achieve!!

    Deffo useless!
