I would imagine the disabled pensioners would be really upset if they had to drive their mobility scooters in to the road because some other disabled pensioner had parked their car on the footpath.

Where should the Taxis, postal workers, police, council etc all park when they come into the areas?

So where should people park???? It is all very well talking about fining people for parking on the pavements but FIRST we must provide parking on all new builds!

Or, perhaps, vote with your feet, and don't buy a house that doesn't have sufficient parking for your needs.
We are in a new build, 9 years old, 12 4 bedroom houses and 16 1 and 2 bed flats at the end of a cul de sac. Just 1 parking place per dwelling, no visitors parking and the road is too narrow to park on unless you put 2 wheels onto the pavement!
Nightmare situation if we will not be allowed to park on the pavements.

Should have thought of that before you bought it, eh?

As a disabled person, I am with Marlot on this. How dangerous does anyone here think it is, for a person using a wheelchair or mobility scooter, to be forced onto the road and into traffic?

That's your problem right there, the highlighted bit. They aren't thinking.

If they are so good, why don't you jump on the "gravy train"?
I often ask this question of people who are quick to complain about the "easy" life of a teacher, with the short working days, 13 weeks' holiday and good pensions. What are you waiting for?

But haven't you always known that you shouldn't really be parking on the pavements, and that at any point that might be enforced?

And I disagree about having to provide parking on all new builds. Why should the developers do so? They wouldn't be able to fit as many houses into a given space, their margins would drop and prices would rise. There is seemingly no shortage of people prepared to buy houses with limited parking so what's the incentive for developers to increase the available parking?

boliston, it is NOT a few yards, it is over a mile from our house to a place where you can leave a car for more than 30 mins without parking on the pavement in our close.
Then if these new rules come into effect where you live, you have a choice between regular £70 fines or a twenty minute walk to and from your car. Or, more fundamentally, you might need to reconsider your choice to live there or to own a car that you can't park there.

Something being common practice doesn't make it right.

    Are there no car parks?

OK they might not be free but people seem happy to spend thousands and often TENS of thousands on a vehicle but then resent having to pay to park it and would rather block pavements.

Who's talking about blocking the pavement? Pavement parking and causing an obstruction to the flow pedestrian traffic are not mutually exclusive.
