Hi I am getting help to buy my house from my brother. He has recieved a letter from the solicitor today asking for identification documents. We are able to prove his address with a bank statement, but are struggling by with the id proof as he doesn't have anything on the list.
Are they likely to accept a provisional driving licence??? I am envising having to pay for a passport for him which will hold everything up??!
Can anyone advise?
Thanks

I don't believe provisional driving licence will be acceptable, what about birth certificate?0

He has a birth certificate but it isn't mentioned on the list which I would have thought it would be0

Should be fine I'd have thought. Ask them.
Otherwise you may need to get a person of good standing in the community who has known him for a certain period of time to certify photos (as with a first passport).
Ask them.0 -
Most sols will require at least one item of photographic ID hence the Birth Certificate on its own not being enough.
I would try the provisional licence with the Birth Certificate.0 -
The only person who can say what the solicitor will accept is.... the solicitor.
There is no legal specification, just a requirement for solicitors to undertake due diligence.0 -
This is such a mess!! Could i change who the gift is from?? My mum is also gifting us money, could we give my brother back his money and get it from my mum instead?? Or is that just going to look dodgy??0

Yes it may look dodgy, like your brother has given your mum the money to give to you.
He could get a passport?
Birth certificate isn't really proof of much, I could go get a copy of yours for about £10 tomorrow. I could then use that to get a provisional driving license...0 -
I would be happy to get a passport, but it could take up to 8 weeks!!! Which is a nightmare. I thought t could fast track but it's only for renewals or lost or stolen.0

No it isn't. Just ask the solicitors what they accept. They may well accept a provisional licence - they don't care about your brother's driving abilities, just his ID. And if they don't then they'll probably have other suggestions which don't require him to get a passport.Could i change who the gift is from?? Ok there isn't anything I can do about it until tomorrow anyway.
The letter from the solicitor states that without the below documents we will be unable to complete! I'm so stressed, I was under the impression he had a passport otherwise I would have applied at the beginning when we would have had it by now0
