Can BT do this

I am leaving BT Broadband in a couple of weeks as my contract is up in 3 days and I have found a better deal. They are charging me for the router £65 which I understand as I moved house 6 months ago and they sent me a new router. Also they have said they will charge me for the days that I still use their service which will be another 2 weeks until switch. But they have said they will charge me £45 as I will have breached my contract by leaving early. Am I thick or how can I breach my contract if it runs out in 3 days and my new provider starts in 2 weeks?

They may have started you on a new contract when you moved 6 months ago. Ring them and ask if you're not sure

I moved house 6 months ago

That would start a new contract if you carried over your service .

I have not had anything in writing though where as 12 months ago I have an email to say contract will end 31/3/2017.

I also spoke to someone on live chat yesterday and they said that My contract is up in 3 days. So if that's the case surely they can't charge me?

I don't suppose there is a person on here that posts that works for BT?.

Any chance you have to give 30 days notice, regardless of the contract expiry date?

I think the OP may well not be providing enough notice. The contract does not simply end with the minimum term, it becomes a rolling contract...

As others has said, the OP probably also entered a new minimum term when she/he moved home...

If you just end your contract without moving elsewhere they charge you for it. I tried it one time before but was a bit cuter with it in the end.

    That's simply not true.

A cancellation outside of the minimum term with the requisite notice given is not "charged for" whether you go elsewhere or not...

It can be - if no other service is being taken at the address, you are required to pay a standard fee to remove the broadband links at the exchange- it is stated in the small print.

It was with me. I was out of minimum term.

I was going to argue with them but it was in the T&C's. I don't care nearly enough to go looking for it but in the end I cancelled the cancellation and did things the more typical way of moving to another provider penalty free.

Ah, okay. I was referring to an ETC fee not being charged in those circumstances, not a disconnection fee.
