I looked into switching to Iresa for my forthcoming house move, but decided against it for three reasons.

Firstly, they want a direct debit payment within three days of switching, thus effectively you are paying up front for your energy.

    Secondly, poor reviews: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/iresa.co.uk

Lastly, the company has assets of £13.9k and liabilities of £105.5k, with cash of £12.4k!

I certainly wouldn't be paying anything up front with those figures!

If I see Sid. I'll tell him!

He will be so pleased there are still those amongst us that are willing to pay 30% or more for their same gas & electricity.

Many new small (and cheaper) suppliers require payment in advance, but if you really object to this, some comparison sites do cater to filter out such suppliers

Remember, any credit you have with an energy supplier is now protected (according to the regulator) in the unlikely event of a supplier going bust.
    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/ofgem-safety-net-protects-consumers-cash

But there is certainly one major supplier out there (probably others), with huge profits and £bn assets, been around for many many years., and will even allow you to pay for what you use only after it has been consumed according to the meter (makke sure you provide meter updates - or get, shudder to think, get yourself a smart meter too - they even supply those, so you don't get billed on an estimated basis)

Sid will give you all the info you need if you see him. You should be able to find him at the annual shareholders meeting quaffing the Dom Perignon...
Perhaps he'll even thank you personally for your generosity

Edit: Oh, and as for trust pilot - do not even leave your home, let alone trust any supplier, it's a very dangeous world out there ... if you believe half of what is written on there. Even Sid is shocked!

The risk (if any) of 1 months payment in advance is worth the savings you gain.

Yes, it is somewhat bizarre that people will happily pay for their insurance, road tax, phone rental, broadband et al in advance but they take umbrage over the fact that a supplier - who has to pay the wholesale suppler in advance of supply - asks for some money up front. The irony is that you now stand more chance of losing your credit when a broadband supplier goes bust than you do with an energy supplier.

My Payment was taken by Iresa two weeks before my switch was complete so only two weeks prepayment. My savings per month at app £25, compared to the new charge from BG after my fix had ended, still leaves me far better off than if I'd switched to another supplier.

You only pay a month in advance. In my experience the monthly amount has been fair unlike previous suppliers who expect overpayment which results in my money sitting in their bank.

To put your mind at rest, the only thing that you are risking is poor customer service. Your tariff and any credit balance is protected in the event of supplier failure.

    Quite ironic the name trustpilot.

    It is anything but.

A lot of people trying to phone on TrustPilot. I had the same contacting problems, but it all fell into place. You can get meter readings to them on an email address and that works. I give regular meter readings when asked, just had a bill, and in credit nicely. And E-ON was increasing their prices by 42% and 48%, so IRESA is a BIG saving. A lot of people phoning was about gas readings, The E-ON guy actually explained that the gas meter details and readings were supplied through a third party who were dragging their feet. If you just leave IRESA alone they do get on with the job. I find their service is running like clockwork, and their site is easy to use, unlike that nightmare that is E-ON.
And if it did collapse, credit is insured by ofgem. I'm getting the same energy as anyone else and paying a lot less for it and my credit is covered. What's not to like?

Eh? You must be confusing Iresa with another supplier. The only part of Iresa that does seem to run like clockwork is the department responsible for taking my monthly DD. That particular function works flawlessly-unlike any other.
