flights during peak season to the US

Hi all

i was hoping you could possibly help me. Its been a really long time since i have booked flights to the US in peak summer season. I am trying to book 5 days for the last weekend of july.

I was looking to fly into Philadelphia but flights are now pricing out at over £1130 return. other than NYC close airports are the same.

So my questions are:
- do peak flights operate like off peak (ie supply and demand and will drop if noone is buying them)
- is there usually a sale around easter?

i know noone can predict and i may have to scrap the holiday completely but i am just trying to work out if this is impossible.

Ideally i would like to spend £500 return to NYC

... do peak flights operate like off peak (ie supply and demand and will drop if noone is buying them)..

But in peak season the demand side mostly prevents price drops.

Have you looked at the Norwegian flights from Edinburgh, Gatwick and Belfast ? http://media.norwegian.com/uk/#/pressreleases/norwegian-unveils-69-pounds-flights-to-the-usa-from-5-uk-and-irish-cities-1823267

If you have more time you could look at stopping in Dublin or Iceland.

Can you change your dates? IME flights are much cheaper in the second half of August than end July/beginning August
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Where are you flying from? I'm seeing options from London below £600 around the end of July.

Your problem is the limited number of airlines flying direct to Philadelphia, BA and Delta I think are the only options. I doubt fares on that route will fall for the first weekend of school holidays. New York is a different matter, lots of options, BA direct is selling at £640 through Netflights who are decent agent, you can save £50 by flying Aer Lingus and changing at Dublin. Normally for a short weekend I would only consider direct flights but in the case of Dublin you go through customs and immigration for the US in Dublin and therefore arrive as a domestic passenger and simply walk off the plane saving an hour, and often more, on arrival.

From New York take the train to Philly.

As stated travel from Dub will be cheaper esp to NY or LHR to NY. Then you could get a megabus or train to philly. I know it is more faff but it will save you a few £000.
