Carers proof

My OH is 73 and he gets yhe lowest rate of Dla. He is sight restricyed in that he has no sight in one eye and no peripheral vision in the other.

Obviosly I have to be there with him when we are out so he doesnt dunch into people or things.
We dont claim anything other than Dla, is there something, say a card or letter that i can apply for to say i am his carer or can we only have tnat if we claim carers/attendance allowance

Thanks for any help

To achieve what? I used to work at the local gym and we would let carers in for free without any proof, it was usually obvious that the person with them required care.

Things like that it's a discount given by a private company so they have their own criteria. Usually it's proof that the disabled person is disabled as it's a discount for their carer (which could be a different person every time). Sometimes it's just taking your word for it, other times it's a DLA letter or other official proof.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    Yep as Ames says,

It's only very recently that my friend has claimed carer's allowance, because he's temporarily out of work, but he or other friends have accompanied me to various places and been allowed entrance as my carer for a long time.

Does your husband have a blue badge? Some places, for example our local zoo, will accept that as evidence. Although usually a case of gesticulating at the car becuase it's on the dash! Others accept the DLA/PP/AA award letter.

When it's not an obvious disability it can be harder and more often asked for proof, but it usually just needs a bit of explanation. Previously I wasn't as obviously broken but did need somebody with me, I don't recall it ever being an issue

Some places have a specific scheme for example the CEA card for cinemas https://www.ceacard.co.uk/

As above his disabiliy is having no sight in one eye and no peripheral vision in tne other. So not immediately obvious but more so if he takes his dark glasses off . 13 eye operations have left their mark .
We dont claim attendance or carers allowance. We are hesitant because we really dont need more cash and also they might just take back the dla away

Many give discounts for carers but it is given due to the person they care for being in receipt of a qualifying benefit, you state your husband is in receipt of DLA so that would entitle the carer to a discount if the Company offer one.

The carer does not need a card.

Just so you know, you can't claim Attendance Allowance (AA)and DLA. If he applied for AA his DLA would stop.

Why not take the DLA award letter with you and state you are his carer.

Most companies are happy with this.

Was about to say same, and can't claim carers allowance for someone on low rate care
