There is a switch above the cabinet above the worktop which appears to power the socket behind the cabinet. That's what the previous owners told me anyway, same way the washing machine power socket works. I've not seen the socket as I'd have to remove the cabinet but based on the switch being where it is I'm inclined to believe there's a socket there.

Here is a photo of under the sink.

The grey pipe on the right connects to the washing machine. The white spigot sticking out to the left of it has a cap on it, I assume a dishwasher is connected to this? I have no idea where the cold water would connect though. The grey pipe under the white U shaped pipe appears to be the cold water connection for the washing machine.

And I think you're right regarding Currys, it's best to ask them. I've not decided on an appliance yet anyway, might not get it from Currys. Depends where the best deals are of course.

I've had a go at removing the cabinet myself. I took the door and drawer off, pulled the washing machine out to remove the plinth and took out all screws I could find inside the unit.

Turns out there are also screws holding it together from the other side under the sink. The problem is, one of these screws is literally to the side of the sink basin and I can't get a screwdriver in properly to remove it.
  • Dishwashers are integral components in kitchen. Before installation dishwasher, you first need to check how much space you have in kitchen. All dishwashers require wiring for electrical as well as room for plumbing. Use high quality wires and attach the wires and run the cable to the dishwasher.

Further update. I have managed to remove the kitchen cupboard myself. I can confirm there is an electrical socket behind it.

Spoke with a lad at work about the pipework, looks like I will need a plumber or attempt to split the pipe myself. He reckons it's easy and showed me how to do it but I'm not too confident with that.

A washing machine y-piece can be used to split the water supply (google it, under £2). You've got the connections for the waste there so whoever you buy from should be able to install it ok.

Awesome, thanks! Just Googled it and you are right. That will fit perfectly. So I shouldn't need a plumber either.

I think I was wrong about the location of the waste pipe connection for the dishwasher. I now think it is the pipe opposite the washing machine waste pipe, is that correct? IE the pipes forming the \|/ shape in the photo where the / pipe is the washing machine waste pipe. I'm assuming the \ angled pipe is the spare for the dishwasher.

Awesome. I'm going to buy a brass T piece like this instead as I've read the plastic Y pieces are prone to leaking.

Any tips for installing it? I'm worried about causing a leak. I suppose the obvious thing is to turn the water supply off with the stopcock first.

That's not what you need. Get the plastic one & let the installer fit it, it'll only take seconds. It won't leak.
