Hopeing the techies can help me, looking to change my S3 for something newer, faster and with a better camera, but not to spend an absolute fortune so sub £250 for an unlocked non contract phone.

One of the things that I don't like about the S3 is the amount of bloatware it has, and as far as I can see the later Galaxy's are as bad (and too expensive).

At the moment I can't make up my mind between the Honor 6x and the Moto G5 plus (this one has confusingly conflicting reviews over camera performance). Have already discounted the Umidigi models to poor reviews.

I should add most of my photos are taken outside in daylight so the lowlight camera performance is not so much of an issue.

Any views or advice gratefully accepted

    Huawei P9 Lite?

It comes as standard with their EMUI (Emotion User Interface), but it's easy to install an alternative launcher (I use Google Now as I like the default Google Android look and feel).

Thanks, i'll have a look at that one.

Any particular reason for the P9 rather than the Honor 6X?

Thanks, but the Apple products don't interest me, and as I said above too much bloatware on Samsung as far as I can see for another one.

Not really wanting to buy pre-owned either, other peoples problems and all that.

Other than the fact I bought a P9 Lite and have no experience with the Honor range .... :)
I like my P9 Lite, and think it's probably one of the best bang-for-buck phones around at the moment.

(Note P9 Lite, not P9 ... the P9 is a lot more expensive but only really has a branded camera/lens whereas the Lite has a normal camera - but still a decent one).

Thanks, yes knew you meant the lite version. Having looked at a few review sites I don't think the P9 Lite would do the job for me on both camera and battery performance, but it's good to hear you like your P9 Lite.

This probably won't interest you, but I'll throw it out there...

Have you thought about installing custom firmware on your phone? I had a Galaxy S2 and installed Cyanogenmod on it. It runs so much faster and is based on a more recent version of Android than is (normally) available for the S2. There's absolutely no bloatware, either. It's like having a new phone.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to repost this on the Mobile Phones board and see if anyone there has any suggestions.
