Cheapest PAYG SIM to use in Europe for data
I have a MiFi device (the little device that creates a personal WiFi hotspot) and would like to use it in Europe. I'd only be using it for light use and mostly flick it on for small durations during the day.
Does anyone know of a PAYG SIM that charges a low rate for roaming data usage?
TIA

I would check Three, Voda and EE. Generally data roaming isn't such good value and sometimes can be very slow. We use Three's feel at home in Spain, the data rate is awful in Torrevieja but fine in many small towns... FAH doesn't include tethering, you would need to ask about MiF use.
If your MiFi is unlocked it may be better to get a local data SIM.
Can you use free WiFi in a cafe or bar?0 -

I think the cheapest seems to be around 4p to 5p per MB for Europe roaming data on a PAYG SIM. I can go with this but thought maybe if there was something cheaper.
Yes, MiFi is unlocked so I could use a local SIM but I've got one trip that will cover multiple European countries and wouldn't be worth the hassle getting local SIMs for each one. Also, getting a UK PAYG SIM with roaming means that any left over credit would be usable for my next Europe trip.
Yes, I would use local free WiFi where available but this is for those moments when I'm not able to.0 -
You can have a free trial with GlobalGig, 100MB/month for three months if that's enough, or buy a package:

I tried it last year, it worked very well in most countries, but in some I had to manually select a network with my phone to get a connection - not sure if you can do that with a MiFi...Evolution, not revolution0 -
I have used Three PAYG mobile broadband with a MiFi, and it worked great in Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark.
It's cheaper to buy it from the likes of Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/SIM-Cards/Trio-Pay-Moblie-Broadband-Pack/B01B23ZK94/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1490789433&sr=8-8&keywords=three+mobile+broadband
There's a Reward sim where it gives you free 200MB/month: https://www.three.co.uk/Free_SIM_MBB/Order
Top up is £10 for 1GB (lasts a month), £15 for 3GB (lasts a month).
Cheaper to buy from Amazon than to top up for some reason.
I had to enable roaming by logging in to the MiFi. Easy to do.0 -

I've ordered one of the Three SIMs with 200MB but unfortunately you cannot use your free allowance outside of the UK without topping up first. It's free to use without top up in the UK though.
Buying the other PAYG Three SIM via Amazon seems like a great shout. Shame the credit only lasts 1 month but seems like the best way to use credit when going to multiple Europe countries in one trip.
Thanks for all the replies0 -
I bought a 3 sim and use it for free in France, Spain is included too, there is a list of countries where you can roam for free. You can use a phone sim in the mifi box, although they say you cant you can! I have bought the 12gb pre loaded data card which I use in my camper van, it lasts for 12 months from when you first use it. I just bought another 2 on ebay for £10 each which seems a bit too cheap, hopefully they are not dodgy! Normally they cost £20 something pounds I think.0
