If they've sent the V5C off for a keeper change, then the tax cancellation is automatic, as of the date of the keeper change. The SORNing is the new keeper's problem.

So the refund is based on the date on the paper & not when the paper is received?

Obviously I'm not talking about keeping hold of it for weeks & weeks. I think it was sent off maybe 3-4 days after it had been sold.

    Yes.

Bear in mind tax is only refunded by the whole month. So as long as the keeper change is dated on or before the last day of a month, you get the following month back. If the keeper change is the 1st of a month, you do not get that month back.

It will be the date they receive the paperwork.

It isn't. It never has been. It's always been the submission date.
