  • Hi LexieLou,

They are empty threats. Never contact your creditors by phone as it is too easy to be pressurised into agreeing to something you cannot afford. Only communicate in written form, using the postal service. Try not to worry. Call SC when you are back at home. Tesco have no choice but to accept your proposed repayments.

Thanks, I just needed to hear someone remind me of this.

Quick bit of advice please, Tesco wrote to me saying that they want me to contact them as they have rejected my proposed offering each month, especially as they have sent me a default notice...what do I do. I thought SC dealt with all this. I'm away and cannot ring SC at the min (away with work). Tesco also have threatened debt collection agency etc

    Thanks all

Great my largest debts are with Tescos so I will likely get the same problem when I hear back from them :(

Our biggest is Tesco too - something to look forward to....
Marks and Spencers were very quick to contact me by phone when the first credit card payment was missed, but were extremely polite and professional when I explained the position. I explained that I had written to them and that we were experiencing financial difficulties so had been in contact with SC to "explore our options". They said I was doing the right thing and they hoped SC would be able to help!
Nothing scary so far. I'll be right on here if there is though.

Hopefully I catch them on a good day
  • I’m just about at the holding accounts stage. What addresses did everyone send there letter to? Am I okay sending them to general addresses or should I be sending them somewhere specific?

I addressed mine to the 'collections department' then just the usual address from the statements.

If they continue to refuse your payment plan, its likely the debt will either be farmed out to a DCA to manage, or it will be sold on.

All perfectly normal, you just pay whoever's writing to you.

    Quick update and question:

    - Approx £52k in debt over 4 creditors
    - Approx £550 per month available to pay creditors, so just over 7.5 years to DFD but planning to bring this time down over the course of DMP

I’ve been speaking with StepChange and am just about to kick off a DMP with them. There have been a couple of bumps in the process with a wrong start date and incorrect balance input in to their system, which has taken a a few extra phone calls and emails to sort it.

It’s led me to thinking that maybe I should just manage my own DMP via NEDCAB from the offset. I was planning to do this at some point anyway but am wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get on with it!

I’ve read this thread and thread 11. I can’t see any drawbacks to self-managing from the start. My creditors already know I’m starting a DMP and are holding off charges / action for a second month.

Any thoughts from those that have been there and done it?

As ever, thanks for all the great advice and support on this forum. It’s a lifesaver!
