DMP Mutual Support Thread - Part 12

I'm feeling a wee bit more in control already...
I've written a list of all the things I need to do and already opened a bank account. It was a faff because I didn't have all the criteria at various places. In the end I went with Lloyds, but they would only give me a classic account. I did ring them and plead for a basic account which they thought was very funny! But I've opted for the classic and said I would not require an overdraft.
Next job is to switch the direct debits one by one after they go out this month.
I will also be calling them to adjust the amounts.
Hopefully this is a good start.0 -
Hi all
Just need some advice. Am currently changing over to self managed from Stepchange.
I have checked my credit report and one of my debts which was to Very and collected by NCO Arrow/capquest was not defaulted.
This debt was settled on my DMP in 2015.
Am I right in that if this is not marked as a defaulted account and instead marked DM that it will be 6 years from 2015 when my last payment was made before it drops off my file? It is a closed account. All of my other accounts were marked as defaulted in 2012.
Also I have a next account which is zero balance and was paid off in 2016 as part of DMP it is still an open account but has AR and then a green circle above that with the letters UC and no default. What do I do about this one?
I have emailed Arrow but wanted to see if anyone on here could help
Thank you0 -

That is correct yes, six years from when you made the last payment to close the account.
If you feel you have not been treated fairly, complain in writing, get them to default you, and back date it.

Just been reading a previous post regarding a debt marked UC and got me thinking......All of ours have defaulted except one with Newday ( previously Debenhams) and that is shown as UC. Now that we are moving to SM DMP, I am hoping to clear that one next month as balance is only £261. So am I correct in saying that will stay on credit file until 2024, whereas the others....all defaulted in 2015/16, will drop off in 2021/22?
So how much will that affect my credit rating just having that one left after the others have all dropped off? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks sourcrates. Will that be the same for the Next account as that is still
Open and is marked up to date but has AR and UC markers only until
Recently and is now OK.0 -

This was 3 weeks ago and today I've started to receive default notices from my creditors. ....
Do I need to contact stepchange and tell them that I hsve received defaults or just file them and get on with my day??
Thanks guys 😊😊
Hi humblebee:hello: and welcome to the thread. Any questions you may have please just ask. There's usually someone who has experienced the same problem and lives to tell the tale;)
Sorry to burst your bubble but you are still a way off being defaulted I would have thought. If you are only 3 weeks into a DMP it is more likely that the letters are just default notices of the 'we may default you' type. Some creditors send them for several months without actually defaulting. Check the wording of them, they are usually just the standard format. Be prepared for plenty of these.
Either way, whether real defaults or just threats to do it there's no need to notify SC. At least I don't think so, I know I never notified them of mine when I was still being managed by them. Maybe someone will put you right if I'm mistaken.
Good luck:beer:0 -

Hi,
You can request/ask and beg for defaults but the creditors do not have to default you even when the debt is sold on.
I took mine to the fos and ICO and they agrees that the creditors/dca were in the right, so it's not all as clear cut as this current thread is making it seem.
You can ask but you may not get..

Thanks puzzcat i suppose I can only ask and say all my other creditors defaulted me and would they do the same. I thought that by January next year they would have all dropped off after the 6 years but now this. My credit account with next is still going and up to date and is now marked ok but will the AR markers up to 2016 still be a negative for the future? Not planning on having credit but thinking of mortgage deals mainly.0
