  • Hi,

I contacted Payplan today and have a call back arranged for early next week to go through income and expenditure. I was advised to contact all creditors to let them know that I am in consultation with Payplan and will be arranging a suitable way forward. Are there any generic letters I can use?

Just doing my I&E on NEDCAB with view to going SM at last. Just a couple of questions to those of you that have already done it. Notice the bit marked Telephone is max £49. Our Virgin Media is £45 (Phone, TV and internet), then our mobiles are £20 (10 each). Would you just put the mobiles in the Phone section and them put internet etc as "Others"?
Also OH pays £21 a month for swimming, is it ok to put that as "Others", or will they see that as frivolous? Same as my hair, which costs approx. £40 a month. They are listed on SC I&E but wasn't sure how much of a necessity they are seen as.....or shall I just add more to the Housekeeping section and not mention them separately?
Think maybe I am over thinking all this now....LOL

I put money in for gym membership - but explained with a note beside it that it was for health reasons. It's never been queried :)

I just put our virgin bundle under phone and hand wrote next to it - phone, tv, internet bundle - again not queries back from creditors.

Is the amount for hair more than is recommended by NEDCAB? If it is then just add some of it to another section :) I used as many categories as I could - if they are on the list they are accepted by creditors as necessary costs for day to day living - well that's my view anyway :rotfl:

I phoned all my creditors. The minute you mention you are seeking support they are not allowed to harass you. They will immediately freeze interest and charges for 30 days.

Jan2015 has, as always, given you good advice. All I would add is that you should make sure all your expenses are covered and that you can live a decent life whilst on the DMP. It's really up to you at the end of the day, just don't leave yourself short - but also try to clear your debts at a timeframe you are happy to be in. This is a journey, not a race :)
  • looking for a little reassurance.I'm sure this has been covered before but 2 letters on doorstep tonight.
    1.arrears
2.A default notice -" you have 28 days to contact us or settle the account"

Getting a little anxious of late, what happens next generally.

Yes, very true about it not being a race. When we first started with SC in 2015 we were paying back over £800 a month but since being made redundant and now only working part time, we have only been paying 285 which stretched the DFD to 2031!!! Now done a new I&E to go self managed and made it look even worse.....lol, .but my plan is to now save and get lots of good F&F's. Would love to be DF by 2023. Whether that's possible I don't know, but certainly aiming for it!

Well I don’t know your circumstances, but I assume you are in a DMP, so this default notice will not take your DMP payments into account, it’s just a formal process the creditor must go through to comply with legislation.

The deadline has no meaning to you, your account will likely be defaulted after 28 days, which is good.

After that it may be sold on at some point.

Won’t affect you at all, just continue with your payments, if it is sold, the new owner will write to you.

Many thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. Is the wording in this token payment letter ok, or would you change anything?

Since making the above agreement with you, my circumstances have changed. I cannot now afford to make the agreed monthly payments.
I enclose a budget summary which shows my total income, and my total outgoings. As you can see, I have very little left per month to service my debts.
As a result, I will make a token payment offer of £1 per month for a period of six months, at which point I will make a pro – rata payment as detailed in the budget summary.

If you are adding interest or other charges to the account I would be grateful if you would freeze these so that all payments I make will reduce what I owe you.
I can continue to use your online facility to make payments. However, if that option is / will be unavailable, please assist me in making payments by forwarding a payment book, giro credit slips or standing order mandate details.
Your patience and co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated and I look forward to your acceptance of this proposal.
I will contact you immediately if there is any change to my circumstances.

Sorry if this looks a mess not sure how to quote text & reply directly.

    Thanks Sourcrates.
Yes I started a DMP (self managing) end of Oct.17.After the initial letters/responses I told all my creditors I would pay £5/month for Jan/Feb/Mar then start my pro rata payments in April.I guess I'm worrying over the unknown, especially the next stage where I have to deal with DCA/Recoveries.

Well there is no unknown, it’s pretty simple really, your creditor either accepts your DMP or they don’t, debts are sold all the time, you just pay whoever writes to you.

Account default is par for the course, as long as your paying what your budget suggests you can, no further action will occur.

Things should tick along quietly for the most part.
