  • Thanks for your advice Sourcrates and leanne12345. I've just applied for a Co-op current account online as you can only apply for the Cashminder account by post. It'll probably get rejected so will then have to apply for it by post, but just thought I'd give it a go as I wasn't applying for a current account with an overdraft. Will see what happens! Can anyone recommend a basic bank account you can apply for online other than Nationwide one. Just getting all my up-to-debt details and will then request the pack from Stepchange. Thanks again for advice.

Not sure which debts you have aside from that but....

    TSB Cash Account: http://www.tsb.co.uk/current-accounts/cash-account/

    HSBC Basic Account: https://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/current-accounts/basic-bank-account/open-bank-account

  • Thanks StopIt. I have First Direct, Santander, Barclaycard and M&S. Is TSB linked to any of those? Or are there any other Basic Bank accounts you can apply for online. Thanks for your help.

First Direct is HSBC so that's a no-go.

Santander and Barclays are standalones, M&S is also HSBC.

TSB is Standalone after de-merging from Lloyds Banking Group, so will be safe.

  • Thanks StopIt. I've successfully opened a TSB basic account online. Will also see what happens with the Co-Op but least I have at least one other bank account now. Thanks again for help.
  • Just had a thought I've got a loan with Tesco and I bought a car with it. When they asked me what I wanted the money for I said a car as well. Would this be classed as a priority debt?

Is there a reason why you don't want a Nationwide account? I opened one when I started my DMP and have been extremely happy with it. I can recommend it 100%.
