O/S Daily Sunday 26 March 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, both boys still in their pits.

Now light here, blue sky and sunshine, although we have had a slight frost, looks like another glorious day could be on the cards like yesterday. Good line drying weather, had a load ready to go out on the line at a more reasonable hour.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, pizza, salad, stuffed jacket potato. Lunch today we're having roast chicken and stuffing, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy. I'll prep the pack ups etc whilst the lunch is cooking.

After work yesterday we visited the parents and took the mothers day gifts so they both had them for today. I took the telephone back to exchange it with another one, and we got that set up as far as we could, but it needs to charge for 16 hours before we start trying to set it up with stored numbers etc, so we'll probably do that this afternoon. Work was steady and passed quite quickly, we're expecting tomorrow to be another busy day.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a beautiful morning here with the sun coming up and the birds chirping away. I woke up early and jumped in the shower and now I am going to enjoy a cup of tea in peace.

My dear friend was rushed back into hospital yesterday where they found she had internal bleeding . She had another operation and now needs to stay in for a bit to recover. I am very worried about her but I know she is in the best place to get better.

My DD15 came home from work yesterday and went in her room and punched the wall. Her older sister was here fortunately and took her up to the minor injuries unit. She may have possibly fractured her knuckle and needs to keep her hand elevated until she can have an xray on Monday. She won't tell me what has upset her so I don't really know what is going on. She was calm when she came back from work, went upstairs and punched the wall. Her sisters are at a loss too. I hope she is ok today.

I will ring my mum in a bit to wish her a happy Mother's Day. I have asked my girls not to get me any presents, I would just like a nice card. I don't need any more 'stuff' to show me they love me. Hubby is going to cook a roast lamb dinner, my favourite and we are going to choose a film to watch together this afternoon.

I hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

After yesterday's cloudless sky there's frost on the ground, perhaps it'll heat up later.

We had a lovely day yesterday out on a RIB, saw so much wildlife and, amazingly, a sea eagle too. FBO - only common seals, though about 30 of them in various places, wild goats on Jura, shags, deer, beautiful views etc. We were out for 2.5 hours on a perfect day. It was a 'veg out' evening after all that.

IN EDIT - forgot to mention the Corryvrekan...the whirlpool was up and running and we rode through it three times. I've never felt that mixture of fear and pleasure for many years. We sat outside and hung tightly. Watching the maelstrom and swell all around was fantastic. Scary stuff but really terrific.

Today my friend is going to help me hang my pictures back up, I want to use command strips this time so they have to be straight first time, and then plant my five potato tubers in a bag each.

Happy Mothering Sunday to all those who look after and mother others, humans or furry.
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC.

What a difference 3 days can make! Tues and Wed sorting out the caravan, awning etc was horrendous - rain, hail, wind and bitterly cold. Yesterday, on the other hand, the sky was blue, the sun was shining and temps of 19 deg! After DD and I broke for lunch, sitting outside at our picnic table, we didn't want to go back to our labours inside and could have just sat there enjoying the sun on our faces! Upshot is that we did do and the 'van is now habitable! It has been hard work this week but now it all seems worthwhile!

DD and DS both visiting at some point today they say! I did two wash loads last night ready to peg out this morning and, as we are promised the same weather as yesterday, it should dry in record time. Might get a bit more pottering done in the garden too.

Not bothering with a roast dinner today. Some chicken pieces defrosting to cook in a wild mushroom sauce. Will have with baby potatoes and a bit of salad I think.

Have a good day and (HUGS) to the poorlies, sad or worried who want one. Happy Mothering Sunday for all the mums on here and take care one and all xx

ps how was the boat trip GERS. I remember seeing the whirlpool on one of Paul Merton's Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands. Hope the seals showed their faces too.

    Morning everyone,

Dry and sunny here but cold with clear skies last night, heating has only just kicked in as forgot to change the clock on the system last night. Just been out with the girls and topped up the bird feeders, now relaxing with my first cuppa of the day.
The new sitting room curtains arrived yesterday so will hang those today, they look like the creases will drop out fairly easily so don't think will need to press first, other than that it's a lazy day for me, I went off to the grave yesterday with a basket of grape hyacinths so DM still has her Mothers Day flowers.

Hope everyone has a good day x

Gers glad your RIB trip was rewarding. We saw lots of edible crab and a largeish wrasse. I only lasted 27mins - it was Freeeezing.

Tried to go to Loch Fyne for dinner, but we keep forgetting it closes at six. The forgot how much further Inveraray is so ended up eating very late at the hotel there. Not quite how we'd planned the day, but at least no one was hurt.

Off again shortly. We WILL stop off for lunch (if it's not manic for Mother's Day) or pick up dinner to take home (from there, or free if a convenient crustacean wanders into our line of sight:D

Glorious weather. Must remember to fill the flasks for hot chocolate though.

Didn't realise it was your diving trip this weekend! I'm not sure I'd have lasted as long as 27 minutes in the water in March.

    Enjoy Loch Fyne Oyster Bar.

    Morning :hello:

tiredmum I hope Dolly's OK. Hopefully she was just having what I call a Blip Day, lol. One thing goes wrong and for the rest of the day (and sometimes the next day too), Scampi is very quiet at home but a velociraptor when we go out. I just gave in to it and now stick to very short walks for a day or two while avoiding everything that moves out there, then he's back to normal – well, normal for him, lol – and we can carry on with training. Sometimes he's fine but just doesn't want to interact with anyone outside.

I went to the new-to-me florist. Mum has no sense of smell so I always choose flowers just for what they look like (as opposed to MIL when she was alive - she was blind so I didn't pay too much attention to how they looked, but went for amazing scents instead). I had an idea of how I wanted them to look and was going to ask them to make up a bouquet, but I walked in and saw some ready-mades, they were perfect. Also picked up some daffodils for her, I think they look nice and cheery in little jugs :D The counter in the shop was quite high, so I asked the woman if I could put the bouquet on a nearby low shelf instead of next to the till. I explained that I could carry it easily, I just couldn't lift my right arm that high at the moment but she still insisted on carrying it out to the car for me. They've just gained a customer :D

Off to see mum this morning, I bet she's bought Jaffa cakes :D She always buys them when she knows me or my brother are going round. Hopefully he'll be there when I arrive, I don't see him as often as I used to. Actually I see his son more than I see him, he's always at work when we meet up during the day, lol.

Not much planned for this afternoon, I'm not much of a meal person so might make piles of sandwiches and work my through them while watching a film.

Morning all, the Internet ate my post again.

Beautiful sunshine and the birds are singing, plus a crow making a fearsome din as opposed to singing. It probably thinks it is singing very nicely, poor thing.

I'm enjoying the peace of nobody else up and when my OH gets up he can crawl out of the window to hang some washing out.

I need to do some ironing and later cook a roast chicken dinner, pretty similar to nmlc. I am about to make some stuffing and have a shallot studded with cloves infusing in milk for bread sauce.

I know it is spring as I have been bitten a lot by midges and am covered in large pink bites, so very fetching.

Later on I'll ring my mum, not yet though, bit too early.

Hope everyone has a good day and that the sun shines on us all. Except for those who are not sunshine-lovers of course.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning (((((((((( hugs )))))))))) if you need one.

Lovely morning, just enjoying our lazy Sunday start, once we are up the bed linen I'd in the washer, it will dry today, might sling the towels in afterwards.

Slept ok last night after our jolly day, it was so nice to meet Hester and her L & M. Her Little grand daughter was charming. Hester did say she was shy, but she chattered way to us. She was writing a card for her Mum and drawing a picture. It was a quick supper of eggs, wedges and beans, OH had yogurt, I had a pear for dessert.
