Re the view of school fields: sports go on out of hours and layouts change, you could suddenly find yourself facing buildings instead.

I live in close proximity to a primary and secondary school, not close enough for parking to be an issue.

From the secondary litter can be a problem, and when they expanded the school involving demolition and re building it was hell. Work over ran by 18 months and there were so many days where the noise was so loud in every single room of house even with windows shut. Work went on out of school hours, evening, majority of Saturday and bank holidays. Hardcore dust was blown everywhere.

I approached the school who didn't even reply to me let alone local councillor, environmental health could do nothing.

Prior to that i had no real problems living near schools.

Now, i would not choose to move near one again. So many schools are bursting at the seams expansion for the majority is the future.

Oh and yellow lines don't make the slightest difference and if it is raining heavily then the little darlings can't possibly get wet. Some parents would park in the class rooms if they could.

Or the laws regarding mobile phone use, or socially acceptable norms of dress- out with your Ugg boots and pajamas on- proper council.

So glad I went with my instinct last year when I discovered a house we were interested in had the back entrance to a secondary school in the street. The vendor did admit it got crowded twice a day but I think it would also be pretty noisy at break time. Where we currently live there's a primary about 200 yards away in a straight line, fortunately nowhere near for parking purposes and that's close enough in the noise stakes.

I live within sight of a large primary, roughly 100 yards away. Parking can be a bit of an issue even though we are not on the same street. However, the major problem I found was when the school, having been rebuilt and extended, installed the brightest security lights possible, supposedly shining on the school car park but in fact lighting up our bedroom like daylight. They did eventually change the angle of them and now seem to switch them off by about 9pm.

.. also forgot to add speed restrictions. 20mph in roads local to the school.

You would be amazed how fast 20mph is!

You may have speed humps inflicted ......

This would be pretty annoying from a point of view of the noise that large vehicles would make each time they bump over it - I live right opposite a primary school and hopefully it might be safe from humps as it is one of the main routes into town from my side of town and humps mainly seem to go on residential roads rather than main routes. Where I live it is mainly sink type estates that have humps everywhere, school or no school.
