Living right next to a school - feedback please

Hello

We are looking to buy a house that is right next to a school (literally next, with a shared border).

We think this might be a good thing from a few different aspects
1. Getting to the school for my little one should be a 20 second drill !
2. View into open fields of the school
3. Safety - a lot of people are either walking in/out/around the school.

But are there any negatives that we need to be aware of?

Parents parking across your driveway and blocking you in.

Parents blocking the road by double parking.

    Noise from the children.

I assume it is a primary school?

Evening events bring noise and traffic too, parents evenings, concerts, summer fayres etc. Convenient for Sports Day though. Good location for LO's friends to pop in.

i lived next to a school that hosted car boot sales on the weekend. that could get quite noisy. lots of car doors slamming, people shouting etc.

if the house is next to a field, you could get sport activities during out of school hours.

with many schools having financial difficulties these days, they may be looking to make commercial use of these fields - possibly even selling to a developer.

I would live next to a school no bother... you're guaranteed to have no night time noise from that side of the house. You also feel connected to the community somehow. I'm currently about 150m from a large secondary and primary school and it's absolutely fine.

I do agree though that parking will be a thing... best spend a couple of morning and afternoons on location to see what it's like.

I think the worst thing would be the parking.

Some people are arrogant, rude and just do not care.

They will park over driveways blocking people in and not care less if the people living there cannot get out.

I have witnessed many arguments over this, on one occasion the husband was very angry because he had to get his wife to a hospital appointment.

A friend of mine lives opposite a secondary school and next to a parade of shops. The pupils lean on her wall and throw all their rubbish in her garden.

Definitely parking was an issue when I lived opposite a school. I couldn't even attempt to park on the street or get anywhere near my garage when it was home time, the whole street and all driveways where blocked off with parents parking.

On the flipside of the parking issue, we lived opposite a primary school. I had left for work before school and returned after they finished so what I had was really quiet neighbourrs and loads of on-street parking outside school hours.

When I was at home it made no difference where they parked and I loved the sound of children playing.

They'd have a summer fete once a year with music playing loud but on a summer afternoon for three hours? No worries.

I lived next to a school and because I was out all day every weekday I had no issues whatsoever. I had a driveway I could park on, but rarely needed to as I always had an on-road parking space if I wanted it.
