How to pick Broadband supplier

One thing I hadn't thought of and wish I had - commitment to download speed.

We're paying for 8MB and even Virgin's test has found this to be 412K and we're right next to an exchange. Virgin will do nothing except advise that their acceptable speeds are as follows:

(Test using http://speedtester.bt.com/)

100kps or more - acceptable on 512kbps products
200kbs or more - acceptable on 1Mb products
400kbs or more - acceptable on 2Mb, 4Mb & 8Mb products
GREAT!
Pay for 8MB, get 400k (1/20th)and VIrgin say this is acceptable.
I'm moving supplier!

It's not Virgin that say this is acceptable - it is BT ... BT will not accept your connection as a fault if it is over 400kbs, and therefore won't do anything about it.

Have you tried just using your house's master socket? Got rid of any extensions? Tried using a router? If you use a router, do you turn it on and off everytime you want to go online? If you do, try leaving it turned on, and your profile will go up.

Paste the results of the BT speed tester here so we can see what your IP profile is.
