How likely is it that there's a dead mouse in fridge freezer if no signs of activity?

We got a new fridge freezer a few months ago. It's a standalone unit in the utility room. A couple of days ago I noticed an evil smell coming from the freezer. I cleaned the fridge and freezer out with disinfectant. Couldn't find anything off. The smell persisted. It also seems to be coming from the back of the unit. I googled and it said there may be a dead mouse in the motor. However the floor is very clean, there are no droppings. I haven't seen any mice or heard them. How likely is it that there would be a dead mouse? I'm scared to check

If there's no signs of mice then sounds unlikely.
On most fridge freezers, at the back, on top of the motor is normally a tray which collects the water from inside the fridge and freezer during the cooling and self-defrost cycles. The water pools in the tray then gradually evaporates from the heat of the motor.
That's the first thing I'd check - maybe some milk or another spill from inside got into the tray and went bad. Worth checking and perhaps giving the tray a wipe out - BUT SWITCH THE POWER OFF AND UNPLUG BEFORE YOU GO POKING AROUND!0 -
And why are you scared of a DEAD rodent - absolutely no harm can come to you (even if it were alive!!)

Thanks, it's more the thought of it, I'm a nurse and have a lot of 13 hour shifts coming up, if I found one it would grosse me out I'd rather wait until I'm off the week after0

Blimey Betty - you do far harder things being a nurse that any 1gram mouse could throw at you!!Perfection takes time: don't expect miracles in a day0

I found a snake curled up in the back of my fridge once. Alive.
No joke!
The fridge was next to the back door.0 -
Oh no, my fridge is next to the back door too, now I'm even more worried!0

The trouble is if you leave it the smell will attract more mice, they will eat the decaying mouse and probably die too. The large number of dead mice will attract rats and so on. Before you know it a heard of wild wilder-beasts will be knocking on your back door. Although you could be lucky, the snake might frighten them off.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Seriously though, Betty needs to psyche herself up and have a look ASAP!0 -
