Zero feedback, new account AND overseas...did i do the right thing?

Hi all
I sold some relatively high value headphones to an overseas buyer (£120), i actually didnt realise i'd ticked ebays global shipping programme, but i wasn't "too" bothered. Anyway said buyer has 0 feedback and had only opened his account two days before purchase, so alarm bells started ringing! N.b. He paid instantly in to my paypal too.

Spoke to ebay chat, mentioned my concerns, she said if i wasn't sure i should cancel, but firstly email the user to saying im cancelling, and then create a cancel request(?), which i did with her help (not sure if this is the right term, but this "case" is currently it is still open, apparently the buyer needs to agree or disagree with this, does this sound about right? I've never had to do this)

Anyway for all I know he was 100% legitimate! But i was not really prepared to risk it. But he has replied to my personal email asking simply "why?". Do i reply saying it was because he has zero feedback/new account or shall i make something up i.e. item is damaged?
Thanks in advance.

Never make up an excuse, when you relist your item and buyer notices you will get a possibly deserved neg.
I'm really surprised ebay allowed you to cancel on a whim, especially as they have such safeguards with their GSP programme, how exactly have you tried to cancel as there is a chance this will get you a defect as well as potentially poor feedback.

Safeguards on the GSP programme. It's worse then normal ebay transaction. The buyer only has to raise a return case & you are screwed instantly!

Last year I had a high value torch for sale (GSP was offered). Someone with zero feedback just joined from Russia. Started placing bids. I cancelled the bids off and blocked Russian users & any users less then 5 feedback. I found using the less then 5 block does help!

I felt it was a con awaiting to happen. All these new ID's always seem to go straight for the expensive items, funny that?

Personally, I think you saved yourself some money!

On a return the seller only refunds the domestic postage, not the International postage:

I had this where GSP was automatically ticked and I did not notice so I contacted ebay and they said the same thing.

I contacted the buyer explaining this, asking him to agree to a cancellation and then I would refund.

    Thankfully, they agreed.

I think it would be so much better If eBay didn't automatically keep opting us into their schemes. It would be easier if we could choose what we want to access and what we preferred to avoid.

I know you only refund the domestic postage & not what Ebay GSP charge extra.

Though if a buyer opens a not as described case. How does the buyer get the item back to you via GSP?
As far as I know the system doesn't let you print off send a return label?

    I agree.

They do it all the time.

I check carefully now every time I list something and I also check the T&Cs on their selling fee offers as I have been caught out on that as well.

Hi again, many thanks for all your replies, much appreciated, I'm still somewhat torn as to weather I've done the right thing, But i guess its done now, anyway, I'm not sure how this all works as never had to do this before

I opened a case to cancel the transaction via eBay, here are the details:
    ***************************************************************
    Transaction end: 22-Mar-2017
    Buyer: (not disclosed)
    Case type: Cancel transaction
Case status: Buyer has not responded.

Messages - This case has been opened by the seller for the following reason: Other.
    *****************************************************

So the buyer did not respond to my eBay case, but in the meantime he opened a "Non-receipt – Claim" via PayPal

Which offers me the following options in how to respond:
    *****************************************************************
()I can provide proof that the item was sent.
()I have not posted the item and I will refund the payment.
()I can provide proof that I refunded the payment for this transaction.
    *******************************************************************

Now, option 2 here seems perfect here, as im more happy to refund the buyer, and seems a simple solution to this, but which case/claim should i be using, ebays or paypals? Shall i just respond to the paypal claim?
    Thanks
p.s. If im honest i've been very tardy responding to the buyer as i dont know how to go about this :(

I'm trying to work out quite how tardy you've been and I think the answer is 'very'.

I think you opened a cancellation on eBay and the buyer opened an INR on Paypal?

    Is that correct?

Hi theonlywayisup..yes, that is correct, assuming that by INR you mean "Non-receipt – Claim"?
