Apple iPhone annual upgrade ... is it worth doing?

Options
Howdy

I received an email ,regarding the above promotion.
I think it means, you make a direct debit to Apple each month.
When a new iPhone comes out, you get it automatically .
Sounds like a good idea . Saves us all turning the air blue when they keep changing things like headphone sockets/ chargers etc.

Do I embrace the idea, or walk away ...?

I'm still on my refurb iPhone 5 which is doing the job perfectly adequately.
Don't see the point in paying for an annual upgrade just for the sake of it. I guess it depends if you're someone who wants the new models when they come out, or not.
What are they charging for the privilege?
    Some pros and cons.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Walk away, an iPhone will last longer than a year. It's like the phone plus SIM contracts, lots of folks say "I'm due an upgrade", it's a marketing con to keep customers coming back :rotfl:
  • Thanks folks .
I detest Apple , because of their sneaky methods of making you pay more for adapters / storage etc.
I have an iPhone 5 s , when I took out the deal I have minimum storage on that phone . I forgot about that, as I was on my way to hospital on a train and bus .
My contract is near its end in may , so I may be offered a proper special deal when I tell Vodafone I may quit after all the years I've been with them .
Im gonna go sim only , and I think I'll pass on the Apple plan .

Thanks elsien for the link :)
  • Loyalty counts for nothing in the mobile world, you are much better off going SIM only with your own separately purchased phone.

There are some good deals to be had, but bear in mind a couple of points:

If you want to switch networks, check their coverage at places you regularly visit, use a cheap PAYG SIM if necessary.

Few providers offer a call spending cap, some don't even have a UK data use cap... they love to rip you off for the transgression! I am on a 30 day notice SIM from Three and would like to switch to EE, for inclusive EU calls while in Spain (regular visitor to relatives there)... Unlike Three where you can turn a spending cap of zero on/off yourself, EE have nothing.

Some SIM only offers include EU roaming, others don't. The EU have mandated that EU roaming charges will cease on 15th June this year... I've yet to see any provider state what changes they are going to make in June. It's likely to end up costing more.
