Gadget insurance for a 14 year old going on holiday.

Hi
I have been searching for a decent company to insure my sons camera. So many companies do not insure 14 year olds ( I understand why) but my sons camera is worth around £1700 and Im worried he is going to lose or break it but he really is into photography and wants to take it.
Can anyone advise on a good company.
Thank you

Is it not covered under your home policy?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I have the exact same question Smiley51 ...... did you manage to find some insurance?0

Can you not take the policy out in your name and have him covered under immediate family?
Alternatively, as stated, home contents would be preferable & offer a better level of cover.0 -
Just to report back, we have found that our house contents insurance will cover the camera with a £200 excess. Feeling relieved as separate gadget insurers will not insure under 16s and you cannot insure yourself for someone else.
Anyway, hope this helps anyone with a similar query.0 -

Just make sure you read the terms, specifically about items left unattended. If you are unsure about the terms, ask your Insurers. This is an area where claims fail, as people do not understand the Insurers requirements for a valid claim.
You can obtain Travel Insurance for higher value items, but need to speak to Travel Insurers to ask for increased coverage. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Just to think about - why do you only want to insure such valuables when they are abroad?
These are at risk in the UK too and don't get put in the hotel room safe when not in your hands, I bet?
Also, as the camera is worth a lot, you need to take care that any alternate travel insurance solution you might rely on in the future adequately covers high value items. Often there is a single article limit which may be as low as £250-300.I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0 -
Well to be honest if it was me I would be telling him that he camera stays home.
To me this scenario is crazy.0 -
Given the son is plainly passionate about photography - I suspect his camera is his most treasured possession.
What is the point in having the camera if when he travels and has the opportunity to purse his passion, he must leave it at home.
Bit like asking a golfer to go on a golfing holiday without clubs or as skier without skis.
Or for a teenager with a car never to drive it.
Or a Man United fan never to take his season ticket out of the house in case ...I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
