ASBO Neighbour trees

Hi All,

Here to ask advice, experiences of dealing with a lunatic neighbours trees/hedge blocking my light, over growing my fence etc.

To give a bit of background: I've lived here over 20 years with same neighbour. I was friends with her for years. I helped her move stuff around the house. I've been in and built furniture for her and been out on the odd night out etc but when I told her I was moving she went nuts!! The police have been involved and threatened her with an ASBO as she's vandalised my car several times, also my garden fence, cut my washing lines, wrecked my bird feeders and that's just for starters. She stands in window filming me when I pull up or go out in my car, she screams and carries on in her house while banging on the walls, and I can't hear my telly for hers!! So, really nice type of person as you can tell!!

So, she has a couple of conifers in her garden but they've grown and now over 8foot tall and block all of my sunlight so basically I can't sit out in my front garden in summer/ nice weather as her trees blocking all the light. Now, if you've read above I'm sure you can understand that it's pointless trying to talk to her, and I really don't think it's important enough to get the police back involved re the original ASBO, even though she has been told about these when the ASBO was originally discussed. And her behaviour is getting back to her screaming and carrying on at night and banging on the walls again. I do record as I've learnt my lesson as she plays the victim when police go round saying she hasn't done anything, but when they give her the evidence she turns like Jekyll and Hide, one of the coppers told me.

Anyway, how do I get these trees cut down without having to pay £400 to council to make her do it?

Thanks for reading and sorry it took so long to get to the point.

Wuzz :)

8ft is only 2.4m, they wot take them down below 2m, so you are only going to get a little bit taken off...

and if she wont do it herself, the council are your only option.
  • Your moving so why worry about a couple of 8 foot conifers?

Let it go, the past neighbour disputes will have taken enough off the value of your hose as it is.

Maybe the OP wants to take the conifers with her?

Be grateful the the trees are only around 8ft tall - I know of somebody who has an ongoing struggle with their neighbour's conifers easily 4 times the height of your neighbours, if not taller. You could literally watch the trees grow above the house on Google street view if you knew where they lived.

It doesn't work like that, and if you know it's £400 etc you probably know that too.

You will have to go through months of attempted mediation first, by which time you may have moved.

In short, there is nothing you could or should do if you're intending to move soon. It looks like she has already stitched you up enough, as there's plenty here to declare to any prospective buyer!

If they grow a bit more she won't be able to film you, more privacy.

The other problem is you have to declare neighbourly disputes when selling your house.
