This is something I picked up on before I came on moneysavingexpert.com (just recently) and an offer I took up say 6 months ago.

http://www.skysports.com/mobile/apps/9653846/sky-sports-mobile-tv

Most people probably know about it.

But if you can't afford the full (well 1 2 and Sports News) sky sports package which is probably £30, like me, and for £5 p/m fancy it on your phone. Well I thought i'd post it. Someone may chance upon this post and take a fancy to it. Really need WIFI for it to work, I get away without it but I have 20gb rollover data allowance.

This deal looks too good to be true! Is there anything on the app that stops you diverting the output to a large monitor or digital TV? I note it says 'selected Android smartphones', but Google Play doesn't state which phones.
  • I actually thought about this and for my iPhone considered getting an Apple TV then diverting output to the TV and effectively having sky sports on TV for £5 per month.

But things weren't that simple (wifi issues) and Apple TV costs circa £50 upfront and to be honest I'm not that technical.

In response to your question I know nothing about android.

It didn't used to be possible to do that, but I don't know the situation now. I'd be very surprised if it had changed and you could though as it would be Sky shooting themselves in the foot. It's telling that the app is only available for phones and not tablets.

There is an Apple cable/adapter from the Lightning iPhone socket to a HDMI socket, you just need a HDMI cable to your TV. See:
    https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202044

I don't know if some apps block its use, I've only tried it with YouTube and the BBC/ITV players. The video quality is excellent.

There are lots of reviews on the Apple site grumbling about the adapter, I have never had a problem using it with an iPhone SE, HDMI cable and Samsung LED TV.

You cant airplay or use a cable to watch the sky sports app on a TV as its blocked,

For reference the BT app you can airplay but cant use the lightning adaptor

There are phones with 6" screens though.

Wouldn't be surprised though if none of those phones were included in the 'selected phones' compatibility list!

I was going to take this out to watch football, although the Pack 1 deal is now £5.99 pm. Although Sky Sports Premier League is included, I note that the £10.99 Pack 2 includes 'Sky Sports Football'. If anyone has this on their phone, can thay tell me if the non-PL matches are also available on the cheaper pack?

Where can I find such a list?

I would have thought Sky could tell you which were compatible.

    So would I.
They failed to reply to my emailed request for a list.
