Pension Credit

I will be 65ys in May and do not claim pension credit but was wondering if I can claim the Savings element when 65yrs as I became state pension age before April 2016 when the new state pension started?

You can claim pension credit when you reach the female state pension age whether male or female. You can therefore claim now if you want.

I read you can't have the saving credit as you will have to over 65 to claim

    Link

It is available to people over the age of 65 (and couples when one of you is over 65)
If you reach State Pension Age on or after 6th April 2016 you will not be eligible for Savings Credit unless:
    • you are in a couple and one of you reached State Pension Age before 6th April 2016
    • you were getting savings credit up to 6th April 2016.

I was told I was a few pounds over the cut off for Guaranteed Pension Credit but to apply for the Savings Element when 65ys but wondered if things had changed as they are phasing the Savings element out.

Have you tried any help with either council tax and housing benefit

As long as your savings aren't over £16000 you may qualify

If so contact your LA and ask for if they do trial assessments - that way you don't have to go through the sending info with a claim form etc

no it wouldn't affect housing benefit or council tax support as pension credit is income related and any income related benefit in payment entitles you to the full amount of HB/CTS for your circumstances

I don't get full HB/CTS so if I do get some pension credit will I need to inform them?

The OP says that they are not entitled to guarantee pension credit as their income is too high.

The OP is asking about the savings element of pension credit. If you are only receiving this then you are not automatically entitled to full HB and CTR.
