E.ON joint account: is it possible or not?

I have just called E.ON as we are thinking of switching to them. I asked if it is possible to have a joint account holder and the answer was no, however, they can add an additional name in their notes so that also that person can discuss the account.

In the meantime I have noticed a thread titled 'E.ON joint account?' from 22nd Jun 10 where Malc, an E.ON Company Representative, was instead saying that it could be done but rules may have changed since then.

So, in 2017, is it or is it not possible to add a joint account holder with E.ON? Thank you in advance for clarifying this!

Hello antod and welcome to the Forums.

Things have definitely changed since 2010. We stopped having new accounts under more than one name when we started sharing information with Credit Reference Agencies in 2012. Before this, it was possible to have more than one name on an account. Now, as my colleague advised, they can only be set up in the one name.

As my colleague also said, we can certainly add another name to the notes so someone else can discuss the account. If you want to do this, I'd suggest sending in a Letter of Authority (it's on our website in the Help and Support section under extra help). This can be downloaded to the account so there's a record of your instruction advisors can see when handling the account.

    Hope this explains antod.

    Hello Malc

Thank you for your reply and explanation, very clear and useful.

I have just seen the Letter of Authority you have referred to. Could you please help me understand when the Account holder email and the Authorised person email ('if applicable') are applicable and when an Authorised person password ('optional') should be set up.

    Thank you in advance

Hello antod and glad my explanation was useful.

With the Letter of Authority, the account holder email would be your email address (assuming the account will be in your name); whilst the authorised person email would be the email address of the person you want to discuss the account. Having these logged as official email addresses lets us talk to you or the authorised person this way if anything needs confirming. For example, we wouldn't be able to send sensitive information like billing/payment details to an unauthorised email address.

Passwords are a service we offer to help identify bogus callers. They also go through to other areas like meter readers and technicians who must quote it on arrival at your home. Although they still need to show you their identity card with their picture, unique number and card expiry date. Passwords are optional and, for added security, you can change them at any time.

Hope this explains antod but please let me know if you need any more information or advice. Happy to help.
