I wouldn't bother trying to get a discount from any major retailer. I think if you are after a discount you need to be targeting local independent shops and antique shops perhaps.

^This. Look online too! Try to find estate sales. My cousin furnished almost her entire home by finding estate sales and picking things up people just want to get rid of with some level of ROI.

Westbridge Furniture, factory shop in Stoke. Google them. They make Next/M&S/John Lewis etc sofas. They also take back the unwanted returns from these shops.

So, you go and see them, show them the Next/M&S/John Lewis sofa you'd like to buy and see what they can do. If they have a return in the same colour and style you want, they can make the rest of the set to match.

In my case, I wanted a 3 seater, a 2 seater and a footstool in a certain colour and style. They had a 2 seater cancelled order in stock, manufactured the 3 seater and footstool to match. Delivered 2 months later, half price off M&S retail price. Absolute bargain.

You might have to wait a bit until they have some of what you want in stock, but a great way to save money.

And they do nice dining tables too.

People don't pay up on time so end up paying a heap of interest.

Interest free credit is very profitable.

Another vote for eBay for furniture. I found the mattress I wanted in John Lewis and then bought the same one brand new on eBay for £400 less.

I think you will find that interest free credit in furniture shops are paid back via direct debit with fixed payments so people do not pay interest on top of the agreed price overall.

My brother didn't get a discount in dfs - but he bought a load of other furniture for a penny a piece.

All of the the things thay have to 'stage' the room. Two side tables a matching coffee table and a massive glass dish. All lovely. Not the best quality but on top of the kind of cheap sofa a bargain.
