Genuine advice is to get on with your life and stop worrying about a single search, but tbh you came on here thinking you were getting a pay day.

You created your own credit search problem by accepting another CC, if you were worried about that you should have sais no and to fix the one you have.

    Some things confuse me here.
Why did you not do the balance transfer first then change your name later?
Why did you not do the balance transfer online?
How/why/when did the credit limit on the Halifax card get reduced?

sorry tocs23, i think you shouldn't have opened the new credit card, and whatever you do stop going in and pestering them. There is a good chance that everytime you go in to the bank of scotland, they do a separate hard credit search, which won't show up for at least a month or two on your credit report, but when it does, the score will tank like a submarine! Your best bet now, is to pay for your credit report with experian, and write a notice of correction on the report, or at least send the team their an enquiry as to how to get your name updated on the report. The thing is, the credit agencies, are independent, and not trying to squeeze you out of your pennies, which unfortunately can't be said for the big banks! John.

I'm no fan of the banks but the credit agencies are little better.

The credit reference agencies will supply you with a made up hunger when you agree to pay them a set amount a month, maybe cheers you up if you are bankrupt or in default but won't help a bank lend you money or supply you with credit.

I respectfully suggest you're full of nonsense.

the fact that i have credit of over £12.7k and a balance of under £700, and no income so to speak, would indicate that i do know at least, a little, about how to get credit cards?

The fact that you seem to think it will take a month for a hard search to show up on your credit report would indicate that you know very little about how that element works, at the very least.

lenders can see the elements immediately, as can the credit agencies. However the searches are only updated on the reports for the customer to see, once a month im afraid.

That's not true. The service subscribed to might only refresh once a month, but I can assure you that if you request an updated report (usually for a fee), the searches will be visible.

With some free ones, such as Noddle and Clearscore, I believe they update monthly and I'm not sure if you can update them any more regularly, but they still use one of the 3x agencies (Callcredit and Equifax, respectively), from which you can obtain exactly the same data (minus the useless "scores").
