Flight diversion on way to dubai

Morning All

Late last year I was on a flight from Auckland to Gatwick, routed via Bangkok and Dubai. 20 mins out of Dubai we were diverted due to fog in Dubai. I don't know where we landed but we were not allowed off the plane and were delayed for over 5 hrs with limited access to food or water.

Will I be entitled to compensation?? If so to whom should I claim ??

No entitlement to EU compensation because you weren't on an EU based operating air carrier.

you could check if your travel insurance would pay anything. Although some offer derisory amounts e.g. £20 after 12 hours so unlikely you are due anything

And even if it were an EU-based airline (sounds like BA at their best) the fog is likely to be considered an "exceptional circumstance" meaning that compensation is not due.

It was clearly Emirates, so as others have said EU261 simply doesn't apply, your only hope is insurance, and that is a very, very slim hope on a 5 hour delay.

Fog at Dubai seems to be an increasing problem, something to think about before buying a flight on Emirates via Dubai

Yes, it was with Emirates..... oh well, thought it was worth a try.
