Council Tax after home improvements

I modernised and put an extension on my home about 2 years ago enlarging it from 3 bedroom to 4.
I've just received my Council Tax demand and it is Band D which is the same as 3 other houses in row which haven't been extended.
The house next to me which was extended about 8 - 10 years ago is band E
Should I have informed the council the property has been improved and extended? (It was done with planning permission from same council)

Any change in council tax band would take effect only on a new ownership.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Should it have the i symbol in the Improvement Indicator column on the voa.gov.uk site?
Is it down to the council to check these things?0 -

It will only go up if you sell it.
I bought my house in 2013, it had been extended in 2006 it was band E, within a month the VO office wrote to me wanting to survey the house.....long story but outcome is I am band F now0 -
Yep, band changes if the house sells and it's deemed to be a higher/smaller band0

You can check bands on here.
Before I moved to my current house I checked the band. Now I have had planning consent, there is an improvement indicator against the property, but this won't be looked at again until the house is sold.0 -
No, if you don't have to tell them - don't! Going from a 3 bed to 4 bed property is a seriously tempting hike, especially if that matches similar near you.0

The tax band will only change if it needs to when the property is sold....breath easy it won't affect you whilst your living there0
