I think ox was right to shout on this occasion, as their advice makes sense.

What would those telling dannib just to turn up say when she returned, saying she had to shell out for another room?!

If you don't check, you're going to be worrying about it, and that in itself could ruin the holiday.

Hope you get a positive response from the hotel ... and enjoy! x
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I am in the same predicament ...
ONLY there was 4 us going and then my son ( aged 13 ) wanted to come
So asked ebookers to add him on to the package and they said cannot do that will have to get flight and hotel room for him also which costs £1300 .I then booked a flight for him with the same airline we are going on ( not ebookers )
So would they notice if there was 5 in the room ....
Or could we ask the chambermaid for some extra quilts so my son could sleep on the floor ? and give her something not to tell on us ??
    Choccy

Sorry but this is really risky and should be avoided at all costs.
Just imagine a fire in your room and somebody tripped over your son on the floor on the way out and hit their head and knocked themselves out?
Do you think this will never happen? are you prepared to take the risk? What if the hotel notice and throw you out - you will still have to pay for another room then.

You are risking voiding your travel insurance, call your credit card company and ask for an increase in credit limit to £1000,000,000 just in case, or just be sensible and avoid voiding your travel insurance, it is false economy.

if the hotel only allows 3 in a room with 2 double beds, then that is the limit.. Personally, i'm suprised that they are the limits, as the hotels i've stayed at, if it is 2 double beds, it is a 4 max...

as i said.. its a room basis, not a per person basis, so if the hotel HAD allowed 4 in a room, there wouldn't have been an issue
  • i have found what America calls a double bed is really a large single .

I'd call the Renaissance in Manhattan dorect and ask about room sizes and bed types.
I've certainly booked rooms at the better hotels (of which I'd include the Renaissance) in New York that has had 2 queen beds and comfortably slept 4.
Some NY hotel rooms are tiny but the Renaissance doesn't fall into this catagory and unless they state the rooms are two different sizes/types of bed in the room then if it'll sleep 3 it'll also sleep 4 and the travel agent is trying it on and tryin g to sell an extra room. However many hotels in the US will charge a small supplement if there are more than 2 adults in the room for additional (3rd & 4th) adults (children are free) but nothing like the cost of an extra room.
Check with the hotel direct and then call the agent back-it may just be you got an inexperienced agent who misunderstood.
BTW Renaissance hotels are excellent -good choice :)
