Hi
We have had our hamster since around feb this year.
when we first got her she was v active on her wheel , ball etc etc.... pretty normal to me .
For the past month+ she rarely goes on her wheel, and when in her ball she doesnt run around much.
She is still eating/drinking etc. everything is normal, apart from her exercise..
She has two cages(spoilt lol) one plain cage , and one with tunnels and things, one is like a sleeping cage and the other is for when she is awake.
We take her out the cage pretty much daily for a little run around with out her ball..... but still we done this from day one, and she would use her wheel at lot more
Is this something I should be worried about?
she is still young yet in hammy years
is this something I should be worried about?
thanks

My hamster did this. About a year in. He would still go on his wheel in the night, but he would still be alseep when I went to bed, and he would be back in bed when I got up (around 6am).
My hammy was fine up until the end when he got really ill (heartbreaking). If you are worried call your vets to be safe. My vets were happy with my hammy, he didnt do much in his cage but I took him out everyday for at least an hour and just let him roam (I got a hamster run :rotfl:) and he loved it.
As he reached 2, he didnt do much of anything, it was just him slowing down with age.0 -
What time of day are you watching your hammy? If its in the day, then yes she will be lazy and grumpy because shes supposed to be asleep.
My hamster used to wake up at around midnight, go mental for 6 hours and then be asleep again by 7 in the morning! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
My hammy got lazy after a few months and would just spend time in the ball cleaning itself! Wasn't interested in it's wheel either but would spend the night chewing the bars of the cage and making as much noise as possible and constantly re-arranging it's bedding.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

My hammy stopped using her wheel and we couldn't work our why, then I saw her one day just sitting on it and I noticed she looked really big on it and it occurred to me that maybe she had grown a bit too big for her wheel. We went out and brought a bigger one and now she runs on it merrily again EVERY night making enough noise to wake the dead! lol! x:love:11th March 2010- Got engaged to my amazing fiance, planning our wedding for 20120

thanks for your replies.
She has two cages , one the wheel is prob a wee bit small for her now , and one with a larger wheel which there is plenty of space for her.
She also chews on the bars... she does seem alert, and she does move her toys and home about , pretty much each night.
One cage is upstairs, cos we have 6 cats, so when we are out , she is locked in LOs room for safety, and the other is down stairs, the bigger one.
She is out of her cage daily, but it is restricted when not in her ball, becuase of the cats, so this is mainly in LOs room.
She has got a wooden maze where we had treats, but it is small and she just climbs over it, the side could do with being taller and the maze bigger, given her more to do, but I have not seen any...........
Sometimes I sleep down stair, as its more comfortable for my back, so I know even in the night she is pretty quite too, I hear he for a wee while, then she goes back to bed!!

As a child we had a really really lazy hamster!! She never used her wheel and when we put her in an exercise ball she just sat there!! You could literally put her on the floor, leave her for 10 mins and come back and she wouldn't have moved!! The only thing she seemed to move towards was her bowl and her bed.....and she never really did much overnight either :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Dhe was the laziest hamster I have ever met :cool:0

Hi there
I always say if you're concerned at all then take them to see the Vet!!
We have 5 hamsters (did have 8 but 3 died within the space of the 3 weeks). 1 of our remain hamsters called Gingey is typically lazy, we call him our Kevin and Perry hamster. lol. He is nearly 1 but has always been the same.
He's always the last to come out at night, mainly because we're the ones waking him up and he'll be the first to go to bed. He is quite active when he's out though. He doesn't so much run the wheel ragged more gentle plodding. He also stores his food in his little house, so's not to move too far when he's peckish!!
Compared to our other Hamsters we would say he was lazy, all animals have different personalities, so perhaps you have yourself a Kevin and Perry hamster too. He brings us just as much joy as the active ones, merely because he is different.0 -
thanks..... I will call her keviness.....
I am not really worried to be honest, she seems happy to me , just lazy.
Its the first time I have had a hamster, for my daughter, so I automatically thought all hamsters are active at night, well more active than what coco is anyway.
Judging by these replies , it could be quite normal!
thanks

My DD's almost convinced me into letting her get a hamster. As she's paying with her pocket money, she wants to spend as little as possible. Any opinions on this cage:

Thanks for any advice
