Loft conversion and contract?

    Yes I used some jolly good chaps with no contract last time as well. Wish the guy was still working, I'd use them again in a heartbeat. Worked like hell, organised all trades so there wasn't a single lost day. Finished on schedule and on budget.
    Hope the next one is as good, contract or not

    Can't you get a quote from a good joiner experienced in this, instead of all in one loft conversion specialists? You'll save a fortune.

    Easy answers.

    Just ask yourself:
    How can you ensure the work is designed properly?
    How can you ensure the work planned conforms to planning requirements?
    How can you ensure the work complies with building regs?
    How can you ensure you are getting value for money and the design is the best you can get?
    How can you ensure the work progresses well in terms of cost, quality and timescale?
    How can you ensure your 60k (well for this quote at least!) is not at risk, or even a lot more if you need to get something rectified?
    Does a nod and a wink give you any security that a contract would?

    Are you able to manage these activities yourself?
    If not do you need professional help?
    ..Or maybe you just feel lucky?
    ......or are you willing to accept the risks?

    Maybe you need somebody working on your behalf to plan and manage the task costing something but possibly saving you more in the short and long term.

    Crikey in some parts of the country you can just about build a house for that......Well maybe a significant extension or little bit more:rotfl:

    Answer all those questions and you could have the answer as to if you need lots of formalities not just a contract!
